It is in the house I just moved into. It may have been like this since it was installed?. The thermostat is a honeywell that has 2 settings on the right is air conditioning on the left is heat.at the bottom is a small lever to turn the fan on.

    Doug,

Is this a new thermostat? Was it working before? Which heat are you speaking of? Emergency (electric strips) or the heat from the heat pump (reversing valve)?

Suggest starting with thermostat replacement only because it sounds as if the fan/heating control has constant power.
good luck

What would make the indoor fan stay on when thermostat is satisfied by heatpump it does not do it when ran in auxillary heat mode it cycles off like it should

One of the safeties has the unit locked to keep the fan running. Probably a high temperature limit switch.

Usually a unit that has been runnung for longer then normal in the heating mode causes the heat exchanger to get really hot and causes the safety to trip.

The safety will lick out the heat mode and cause the fan to continually run. Other then that it could be the fan limit switch or a bad board.

I have a carrier Day & Night a/c - heater unit. the model # 591ANX0480000ACAA, 208/230 volts. my blower fan stays on continuously, even after turning the thermostat off. the condenser fan does not come on...

If the blower fan in the furnace won't turn off, there is a tripped/blown limit. It's a safety. As for your condenser fan it could be a run cap or motor. Do yourself a favor and have a licensed HVAC contractor take a look. Find a NATE certified or ACCA member. You will find a much better more qualified contractor.

Is it normal for fan on outside unit to be on while on heat mode

Yes, it is normal with a heatpump, you run the outside unit in cooling and heating.
It is also normal when the outside unit goes into defrost for the outdoor fan to shut off during the defrost mode and to see steam coming out of the outside unit, while it's melting the frost or ice, then the fan will come back on.

I turned my CA on and it is blowing warm air

This happened to me also. Either the fan motor on the heat pump has died (what happened to me) or the relay for that fan has gone bad. Either way you will need an A/C tech to diagnose it with a multi-meter. FYI even with warranty (on the fan part) it cost me nearly $300 for 1hr labor to replace the fan. If you are out of warranty you might search local places for a new heatpump fan and either do it yourself (if qualified) or hire someone.

Heatpump A/C not working

First,Turn on the heat cycle (Not Emergency)and see if the outside unit come on,If not,and you don't have low voltage outside,Go to the inside unit and test the transformer,If you have low voltage from the transformer but not outside,It is the low voltage wires,If you don't have low voltage from the transformer,It's the transformer. If you have low voltage outside when in heat mode, but the unit won't come on,It's the contactor.Let me know if you need more help.

Ruud air to air heatpump intertherm propane furnace honeywell th5220d non programable thermostate.fan on furnace will not turn off in aux.mode even though the furnace heat kicks on and off. thank you for...

Make sure fan relay is wired correctly (G) wire. Ensure the fan on therm is not on, it should be on Auto or off.

If your furnace is short cycling because it has to keep heating your home, the delay in the control board may be staying on to compensate for the exchangers getting hot. If it heats normally, then put your attention to your thermostat.

Set the heating system on aux heat only. Fan should not be on, if it does stay on after a heating cycle, see if the furnace is heating normally, and reaching temp as desired before the heat comes off. Then check the therm wiring, pull the face of the therm, disconnect green wire (fan) and try the heating again.

If your Heatpump's fan isn't running but your compressor is, your fan motor is out. If nothings happening at all ensure your getting power to heatpump (ex: breaker tripped, fuses blown on outside power switch, or fuses blown in breaker box?)
