Question about Tascam Audio Players & Recorders

3 Answers

I bought a TASCAM BB-1000CD recorder in April & just got to use it. It recorded distorted the first time, but on retrying it recorded o.k. for a couple of times. Then yesterday, it recorded for about 7 seconds or so, it stopped recording. The recording slight started blinking again after being on the non-blinking status at start. Please advise. How is it that we are charged for this service when I had just recently bought the item & it hasn't proven itself yet. I'll pay the charge because I need it right away, but don't feel it's fair for new purchases. Anyway, I would appreciate any advice. sincerely, Hideo, Heeday's Ukulele Publications, Hawaii.

Yes, thank you for the feedback. I tried three different microphones & they do not seem to be the problem. It's just a matter of the unit recording only for about seven seconds. The blinking light that tells that it's ready to record transforms to a sustained light, indicating that the CD is recording. I don't have a SD card so rely only on the CD protocols. The blinking stops & the recording process is o.k. but after 7 seconds the blinking light starts up again & the home screen shows 000000. I play back the recorded CD & the recording is fine except that the unit stops recording. If it's not possible to fix it here, what's the procedure for getting a replacement. You mentioned that you folks are only the tech experts & the sales are left to other departments. I had bought the unit from a online dealer. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I have the manual, but there is no "resetting" provision. I tried the recording setting, but same thing happens. The playback is o.k. though with no stoppage. Do you think it needs repair? If so where do I send it to. Thank you for your time.

The most you can do yourself is to reset the recorder. If your recorder came alongwith manual just check it out for resetting option. Most of the times they work after resetting. If you don't have your manual download it from the following link
www.americanmusical.com/.../Tascam_BB1000CD_Manual.pdf
By the way your recorder is on sale at 600 $ alongwith free 2 GB SD Card.

Hi there.

I am sorry you had been charged, we are tech support, and Fixya charges a small fee to ask technicians how to repair and fix technical problems.

Regarding your Tascam,
if this happens when recording to hard disk it sounds like the unit may be factory defective.
If this happens recording to media, try different media, and see if the same happens when saving to internal hard disk.

Try also using a different Microphone port, there are two at the front and two at the rear. Turn down the Rear Mic knob down and try recording from front MIc (sutable for small solo recording), then do the same with front Mic to use mic at the rear.

If still no luck call the toll free number: 1-800-447-8322 to get info on how to get a replacement, or to be guided step by step through the Service Menu (opens when you hold down the Shift button, the 1 and 2 button under the OUT PUT ASSIGN ) .

Regards.

I have my tascam bb-1000cd and a wireless mic into record and there is a speaker icon with a slash across it

A speaker icon with a slash across it = your speaker is on MUTE. Try to turn the sound volume up or if you have a MUTE button on the device, press on it to UNMUTE the speaker.

Cant hear audio on tascam 2488i brand new to using it but i do understand how to record a track on my display screen i can see the audio i recorded but no sound what so ever i have my headphones plugged up...

hi

Tascam Digital recording is an effective solution for broadcast-quality home recordings. The Tascam 2488 is a user-friendly tool and useful for home recording situations, especially when writing songs or cutting demos. It even has bus compression and processing for your final mix to give it that "mastered" feel. There are other recorders as well.

Instructions
  1. Learn your gear. The Tascam 2488 DAW offers 24 discrete channels that can be recorded at up to 24-bit resolution. 16 tracks can be recorded simultaneously, via eight XLR balanced inputs and eith 1/4-inch unbalanced inputs. There are several high-quality built-in effects, such as reverb, delay, modulation, compression and a great tool for guitarists: amp and effect modeling. So you can simply plug directly into the console and get live amp tones.
  2. Record or program the rhythm tracks. Most Tascam products offer a large library of built-in drum loops to construct rhythm tracks, so you don't even need live drums just to get a song down. You can designate the tempo of your song from the transport located on the right side of the console; this is where you would use a variety of buttons to make edits, undo or redo and automate punch-ins
  3. Record your base rhythm instrument. Let's say a rhythm guitar. There is a dedicated guitar input located on the front of the console, and once you're plugged in you can use the aforementioned amp modeling features to dial up a sound.
  4. Record the remaining track or tracks. This could include bass, vocals, keyboards, horns or any other instrument. The process is always the same. Arm the track you wish to record on, hold in record and hit play, and the machine begins to record whatever you are playing. When you're done, hit stop. If you want to undo what you recorded, simply hit the undo button.
  5. Repeat these steps on any other instrument you want to record. Plug a microphone into one of the first eight XLR inputs, the first 4 of which have phantom power for studio condenser microphones, arm a track and record.

  • If you need to punch-in a section, you can automate it by dialing up the time in the song you wish to replace using the auto punch function. When you enable this and choose the time in the song you wish to record over, once you hit record and play it'll start the track a few seconds before where it begins the punch-in and it will only go into record when it reaches the designated time stamp.
Do not rush. Proper recording takes time and patience.

hopefully this can help
regards

I am having problems with my Tascam Da-88 8

Maybe you could just clean the heads. If anything visible comes off they're TOO dirty. Or or look at it yourself with a strong light source and see the wear by evaluating reflections from the head surface.

I have a DP2 Tascam 8 track recorder. Can I come out of my 16 channel mixer into my recorder and record my whole band?

The Tascam DP-02 can only record two tracks at a time.

You will have to mix "on-the-fly" and record the master out, or record each instrument seperately, and just record the drums as a stereo mix.

Tascam CC-222 not producing quality CD's Help

You need to verify that the signal going IN to the recorder is ok. There are a number of ways you can do this, the simplest and cheapest is to get another recording device you know works, that takes the same connectors, and test using that. Something like a cassette deck, or whatever a church member may have at home. If that works, you've determined that its the Tascam, if not, then you need to trace back to see where the signal failure is occurring.

I've just got a tascam dp01cf recorder and i'm having trouble with it, its abit hard to understand what to plugs in were, i'm using a electric guitar,a yamaha magicstomp effect pedal and a amp. also i'm...

Hi,

You have a couple of options with your guitar input. You can either plug your guitar directly into the right (Hi-Z) input and use the Tascam's onboard effects with it instead of your effect pedal.

You can put your pedal in the chain between your guitar and the (Hi-Z) input. So guitar into pedal is, pedal out into Tascam Hi-z in. (Still doesn't use the amp).

Or my preferred method for recording guitar would be to mic the amp. In that case you'd just input a microphone (placed about 8-12 inches from your amp) and record your guitar that way. The mic would be plugged into either one of the Tascams two mic inputs to record the amps speaker output while your guitar, pedal and amp would just be hooked up in the normal way.

Please note: Never plug the output from an amp into any of the Tascams inputs. Those inputs are line-level and the speaker output level which comes out of an amp out would damage your Tascam.

To get a backing song into a track in your Tascam, you'll have to first, using a PC, get the song into a 16 bit mono Wav file format. Then you'll have to use the USB import function to copy that wav file onto your Tascam onto the CF media cards fat partition. From the you'll be able to import it into the Tascam choosing which track it will import into.

Cheers,

BD

US-144 noise

Hi

Usually Noise comes from distortion such as Electricity (50-60Hz), Main reason audio input cables might have shielding problem. Make sure cable is connected well and shield is not destroyed. You can understand it when you unplug the input connection and use the Computer volume by playing a digital media. If distortion persists contact to TASCAM @+1-323-727-7617

Good Luck

if the multitrack doesnt have built in effects you need to but an extrenal vocal effects processor that you can wire up to it. try lexicon products, they offer really good realistic vocal effects rack units.
