Question about Poulan Pro 42CC 2 Cycle Chainsaw, 18"

Poulan 2300 2.3 ci Firewood Excesive oil lube to chain ?

Hi anyone , my saw seems to pump out much to much oil to the chain? I believe approx one oil tank to one fuel tank of petrol is a rule of thumb? Well mine uses about 3-4 tanks of oil to one of fuel. you can see it just running out almost. Does anyone know what maybe causing this to happen. I am a mechanic by trade but not on small engines but am sure I can do the job.

I have a1640 partner and the oiler pump does not pump out oil when in use. I cleaned the saw and I have lost the cap which fits on the end of the plunger of the oil pump

Hi allanpriest...

Forget the auto oiler...use a handheld oil gun to lube the chain on your saw...just lube the chain approx. every 2 - 4 minutes of use
Please take time to rate me

Poulan 2300 Firewood chain doesn't oil

She is long of tooth. Some oiler parts are NLA. Item 17 on the "Power Unit" print is the actual oil pump. Do not mistreat it; do not blow it out with air; they are no longer available.

Poulan Pro 42/18 gas Chain saw: The chain oil hole that feeds the upper slot seems to be blocked. Does that rubber assembly just pull out or does the whole area have to be taken apart. Is it gravity feed...

GS, there is a pump driven by the clutch sprocket/drum. Operate the engine with the bar off. There should be oil coming out.

a) If so, the hole in the bar is plugged with saw dust. This is very common on all brands of saws.

b) If not, then remove the clutch/drum assembly and inspect the worm gear drive of the pump.
*note, the threads on all chain saw clutches are Left Hand reverse threads.

What is the most likely cause of oiler not working

Several causes exist. Most likely are:
1) Clogged oil-hole in bar.
2) Clogged strainer in oil tank. (part # 530056533)
3) Unhooked pickup hose in oil tank. (part # 530038373)
4) Faulty oil pump. (part # 530071259)

Of course, check oil level and use proper bar&chain lube.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

Poulan oiler don't work

Common problem with Poulan and Craftsman gas saws. Take off the chain and chain guide and clean out all the saw dust etc. Start saw without chain and look for port where there are signs of oil. If port is clear of sawdust, then it is likely the pump which is located behind the chain break assembly. you can get the diagram on Poulan website and the replacement pump will cost about $15 - $20 to replace yours.

Oil

The oil holes in the bar get clogged with saw dust. remove the bar and chain and run a utility knife in the chain slot and blow it all out with a compressor if you have one. if you still have no lube then its a pump problem
