First backup all your data..then try formatting from command prompt by typing format x: where x: is your pen drive... if that doesnt work, try the mformat utility available here http://www.4shared.com/file/64277329/48498e3c/mFormat.html

I can't open pen drive and it shows access is denied,

It happened because your "pendrive" contains one kind of trojan horse. Please scan by some good antivirus.

How format 8GB pendrive because file protected

  1. ?id=microsoft.windows.resources.shellexecutetopiciconClick to open Computer Management. getcontent.aspx?assetid=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b&documentset=en-us&prod=win700&market=us If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. In the left pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.
  3. Right-click the volume that you want to format, and then click Format.
  4. To format the volume with the default settings, in the Format dialog box, click OK, and then click OK again.
    Notes
    • You cannot format a disk or partition that is currently in use, including the partition that contains Windows.
    • The Perform a quick format option will create a new file table, but will not fully overwrite or erase the volume. A quick format is much faster than a normal format, which fully erases any existing data on the volume.

My kingston 8gb cards only show 1.87 gb and will

The 'FAT' file-system uses 16-bit arithmetic, and thus is limited to about 2GB in size.
The 'FAT32' file-system uses 32-bit arithmetic, and thus can easily format an 8GB device.

So, be sure to choose 'FAT32'.

Also:
Click Start
Right-mouse click My Computer
Choose Manage
Click Storage
Click Disk Management (local)
Does the card show a 1.87GB "partition", plus 6.13GB of "unused" space?
If so, then delete that "small" partition, and then create a new partition that "spans" the entire 8GB.
Then, FORMAT that partition.

Pendrive write protection removing

Hey, the transcend pen drives usually have a small switch on the side of it, ie to turn the write protect on and off, usually a small lock symbol on it, the problem with unreadable files names etc, could be a corrupt partition, i would suggest formatting the drive as long as you aint got any important information on it,

All the best
