Question about HP PAVILION DV4000 AND V4000 SERIES (FF)MOTHERBOARD - 403895-001 CD-ROM Drive
I have an old HP pavilion dv4000, with product code DV4010AP to be exact. "AP" for asia pacific i assume. I myself have expertise on fixing computers but mostly desktop PCs and I have also been a tech support for both dell and toshiba laptops. This DV4000 was assigned to me by my company, and the wifi device does not seem to work. I have tried downloading the drivers because the original CD is lost. However, even if I tried installing the EXACT drivers directly from the HP website, I can't get it to work. Windows can detect the wifi device because in the Device Manager it comes up with a yellow bang and calls it a "Ethernet controller." My NIC and bluetooth works fine, its just that crazy wifi. Because of this, I also had my windows operating system XP SP3 clean reinstalled from scratch because I thought it might be a registry issue, but STILL I can't get it to work! At this point, it should be a hardware problem since I reinstalled xp, but then again IT IS BEING DETECTED by windows in the device manager, so I assume that I might not have the exact drivers. I also tried running Ubuntu 8.10 on it, still the same, but I don't know how to install drivers on it and I'm not interested in running Ubuntu. I was able to find out in Ubuntu that I have an INTEL PRO wireless 2200BG. Now I DID download that driver from HP and even from the INTEL website, BUT STILL NOTHING! I even updated the BIOS just to see if that was the problem but still no. PLEASE HELP! I don't know if it is a known issue with it or a patch from microsoft would do the trick. I would greatly appreciate any leads. Thanks!!
There is an on off button on the top of the laptop. I know its a stupid thing but did you check it to make sure it was on. I have had this issue a few times.

This used to be a common problem with HP laptops. This is a Hardware problem and it should be serviced by authorised HP dealers. They'll replace the wi-fi component but sadly this problem can occur again.
