Question about Panasonic Palmcorder PV-DV52 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Blinking Power Button

I went to film after it had rained. The dew detector flashed and shut the camera off. I kept restarting it and the same thing kept happening. So I got in the car to see if the dew detector would stop flashing and it did stop, but every time I tried to record nothing happened. I attempted several more times but with the same result. The screen was empty with no on screen display, but the power button light thing just flashes when i turn it on. The battery is charged though. And in addition to all of this it seems to have started eating the tape when this problem started to occur. Is it an easy fix or if not is it worth it to repair it or just replace it?

Re: Blinking Power Button

Try removing the case screws from the right side of the camera. Soak the screw in Electronics Cleaner (you can find this at Radio Shack). Handle the case carefully as there as some wire and a wire tape connector attached to the case. Carefully replace the screws and power up. Remove the battery before you start removing screws. This seems to have fixed mine for now

Get "DEW DETECTED" warning on screen, powers off.

Also try this, take the bottom cabinet off, with the lcd panel facing you and the camera turned upside down and the cassette housing pointing away from you you will see 2 wide gold cables plugged into the right side of the board, realitively the same size, the gold cable that is between the main pcb and the mechanism assy is the control cable pull it our of the connector and clean it with alcohol, you can even take it one step further and evenly trim just a hair of the cable off all the way across just so that it has a new place to set. This has worked for me over 100 times in the past years. Seasoned camcorder technician 13 years experience.

Dew light

Dew is likely to form in the following circumstances: ?When moving the camcorder from a cold place to a warm place. ?When placing the camcorder in a cold room which is then heated rapidly. ?When moving the camcorder outdoors from an air conditioned room or car. ?When placing the camcorder in the direct path of air blowing from an air conditioner. ?When placing the camcorder in a humid room. Dew will gradually form on the head drum of your camcorder and make the video tape stick to the head. This causes damage both to the head and the tape. When dew forms, recording and playback may not function properly. When ?DEW? flashes, remove the cassette, leave the cassette compartment open, and wait for a few hours to allow the camcorder to acclimatise to the surrounding temperature. To use the camcorder again, turn on the power after waiting for a few hours. Be sure that ?DEW? has disappeared. Do not insert a cassette while ?DEW? is flashing; this may result in damage to the tape.

Bypassing dew sensor on a Sharp VL-Z7 mini DV

- the solder joints to the DEW Sensor were "cold joints" which means that the solder joint is defective - is not a sound joint. This means that with temperature variation, the solder joint can intermittently separate and break the circuit, causing the DEW Indicator to come on and completely shut down the camera. The first problem I had with the camera was on a cold day, so it seemed to make sense.

Here is a picture from the perspective of the tape cover being at the top of the picture and the rest of the camera at the bottom. The dew sensor will be on your left.

go to:
Then, get a real slim soldering iron with a fine point. Open the tape cover and take the tape out. Get a strong light to shine down into the mechanism.

If your camera is like mine was, you may see a brownish material on or around the solder joint - this is flux used in soldering which was applied too heavily, and not heated long enough to burn off. The joint therefore doesn't quite connect the dew sensor to the terminal post - depending upon heat/cold ambient conditions, sometimes it makes contact and sometimes it doesn't .

Heat up the soldering iron - make certain the point is tinned (has a thin film of solder on it). Carefully just touch each solder joint for a couple of seconds - just enough for it to melt, and then quickly remove the soldering iron. You don't want to leave the iron in contact with the solder too long or it may melt other insulation around the terminal. This all probably sounds more complicated than it really is - but it really is just a 5 minute operation. If you've not done much soldering, and feel uncomfortable about trying it, you may want to take it to a radio, tv or computer repair shop and ask them to do it for you.

Sharp vl-z8 dew light keeps coming on

It seems that the due detector can suffer from bad soldering or soldering alteration after few months of use.

1. The (ideal but uneasy) solution consist to fix this solder by making a clean new one, I personally did it, and it worked for a few months without a problem anymore ; but then it came back again.

2. The other solution consist in short-circuiting the dew detector to eradicate the problem.
Of course, it will also mean that when real dew will happen you may use the video tape recorder when you shouldn't, but at least you should not see the problem coming back again some months later.

To know more about this dew detector circuit and how to fix it the way you want go there:
a zoomed picture of where to fix the detector can be found here:

Hope this will help as it helped me,
Good luck,

It is possible that the dew sensor is faulty or more likely that the connection from teh sensor to the rest of the camera is faulty. This unit will require repair. If you can soler, you may be able to resolve this. I'll look up your model to see how bad the access is to the sensor.

Dew detected error signal

Dew has condensed in the camera. Eject the cassette but leave the cassette door open.remove the battery . Borrow a hair drier . set it to optimum temperature(not vey hot but but hot enough to cause discomfort when blown on fingers). direct the hot air through the cassette compartment door for about five minutes. reattach the battery and reinsert the tape.
Good Luck,

Dew detector please help me

You would have to replace the dew sensor which is a device in close proximity to the video head which shuts down the camera to avoid damage when moisture is detected at a high level inside the camera. Sounds like your sensor has changed values and triggers at too low a level. If you are not familiar with this kind of technology you should take it to a repair shop. The repair should be less than $100 US. Two websites which give free estimates are and Good luck.

HELP, my panasonic keeps shutting off. Dew? condensation?

Put it in a very dry place, and let it sit for a few days. How is it getting either dew or condensation? Once dried out, keep it in an airtight plastic bag.
