Ok, i tested the resistance on all three solenoids on the fill valves. All have good ohm resistance. This part was replaced over the winter when it froze. Any other thoughts? I am running out of clean underwear.

    Hello,

I unplugged the washer all night and it came back on where I unplugged it in the wash cycle. Timer issue? How can I test that? I checked the solenoids an all three read about the same on the right side of the meter, 0.8 ohm with the meter set at OHM X1K

    Any other thoughts?

  • jonnypopr Jul 19, 2009

OK, checked the water pressure valve, checks ok. Cheacked pump, is clear. on hand wash cycle, fills with cold water, then does nothing again. Pump sensor? Timer/control pannel? I am about ready to use it for target practice. What else can I check?

    Thanks!

  • jonnypopr Jul 19, 2009

Thanks for the info, Could you please send the info on how to get to the pannel. Tnank you

Just because the solenoids read good electrically, doesn't mean they're working. They could be jammed with hard water deposits and not allowing water through. This is what I suspect. If you open them up and soak them with CLR you'll be doing them a favor.

According to all the checks you've made so far now I'd sudgest you to clean the water inlet plugs, make sure the drain hose is at least 23.6" (60cm) from the floor level and if this won't solve the problem get to the control board, and ensure that timer circuit components are in working order. Most likely there's gonna be electrolytic capacitor dried out. Also run through all the control board components some visual inspection as there might be some dry solder joints at the back side of the control board. Some models of the 7000 series had the control board covered by thick layer of wax, so in this case you would need to replace the control board.

If you need any detailed instructions about how to dissassemble and/or test any part of the washer just let me know and I might provide you with service manual.

Best of luck with your repairs.

If you find my provided information handy please rate it as I always value any feedback from the customers.

Hi There,

If the fill valves checked out ok and is opening and closing the way as well as the hoses which lets the water flow correctly, I would advise to check the water level switch. The water level switch detects if amount of water on the tub by a hose filled with air connected to one side (on end at the bottom of the tub) to the switch. Inspect the hose if it has holes on it and check the switch if it is still working.

Below is a link on how to test it.

Can you check the door? See if the sensor is working. It should send a signal that the door is closed to the control board to start the cycles.

Hello there, sorry to hear about your troubles. I would check with the place that replaced the part for you, or did you do that yourself?

If the ohm reading seems normal then it's probably not the culprit, but still could be.

Have you tried the basics of making sure to unplug the washer from the wall, leave it for a good 5 minutes, and plugging it back in?

Thanks, let me know!

The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine.
No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. It is possible that one of the coils can fail and you loose that filling ability. If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. You can test a fill valve live for 120 volts, power to a fill valve coil and no fill = a bad fill valve. You can also test the coils for continuity, no continuity = a bad fill valve. Some Maytag washers have a fuse in the fill valve circuit, if this fuse let go the washer will not fill. Fill valves can also from time to time stick open and not stop filling. If you have to shut off the fill valves to stop the water from filling in the washer, you have a bad fill valve and you will have to replace it.
The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Repair manual

Good Afternoon Brenda - Generally speaking, washer machines do not have a filter. Depending on your particular model the unit may have a coin trap. Below are some basic troubleshooting steps you may wish to follow to locate and clean the coin trap:
  • Unplug the unit.
  • Remove the bottom front access panel. There are two screws one on right and one on the left towards the bottom of the front panel.
  • Now that the panel is removed look inside on the bottom right hand side there is a black looking accordion thing. This is the coin trap.
  • Clean the drum out with as much water as possible that you can remove and have towels ready. The next step you will have the remaining water come out of the bottom of the drum and onto the floor.
  • At the top of the coin trap where it is attached to the drum is a silver spring with a silver screw. Loosen the screw and wiggle the coin trap down from the drum.
  • Reach inside the coin trap and clean what is inside of it out.
  • Put the unit back together following the same steps backwards.
Hope this information proves to be helpful!

My frigidaire affinity will spin when washing but only spin the closes dry when on delegate cycle what could the problem be?

Hello Tony - Often when a unit does not spin it is because the unit cannot properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. Does the drain pump make a humming noise? If so, there may be a restriction in the drain line or siphoning. Otherwise since it is such a complex unit I would recommend contacting a professional to have either the pump or timer diagnose. Also you might want to clean out the coin trap, filter trap, of the unit for extra security. This needs to be completed about every 6 months to prevent any issues.

1. Unplug the unit.

Machine won't spin

The most common reason for this is the pump is jammed - usually with a coin or sock or something.
The pump may be accessible from the front bottom of the machine - look for a little box open it - and you will access the coin - you can clear it and try again - remember to put the coin trap back together again.

Alternatively, if no coin trap is present you will have to tip the machine back - and look for the pump usually it has two black hoses going into it and it is situated near the bottom of the machine - remember when removing the pipes water will come out - so - have a bucket close by to catch the water.

you may find what is jamming the pump there - if there is nothing the next likely culprit is the timer... try moving the programme dial on a little bit see if the spin starts - if you have a digital machine there will be no way to try the last fix.

But the pump is almost always the problem!

Good luck

disconnect machine from mains electric supply. remove top cover of machine then check the back of the control panel for a small black pipe, it should be attached to a small nipple in the panel rear if it is not you will get the fault you describe. if the pipe is connected remove it and blow down pipe with your mouth or a foot pump to remove any blockage then reconnect it and try the machine again. check also that the pipe is not trapped or kinked too i hope this helps you

Of course, if your washer is setting on top a drawer/pedestal then you will need to take out the screws that connect the two and then you can lay the washer down on its back onto the pedestal
