Question about Bissell 9500 ProHeat 2X CleanShot Upright Deep Cleaner, Red Berends Vacuum

1 Answer

Our machine works 3 minutes - and then 10 minutes it does not

Water will come - and not getting sucked back in strongly enought. Then water will spray out....then it does for about 3 minutes, only to leave carpet soggy, and not **** it up When I shut if off - and then turn on - it sometimes works again....

I think we bought a 'lemon'. When I called the company about this (after 3 uses ) they said the thin water incoming tube on side of the machine must be clogged (! after 3 uses ? - come on this is our 3rd Bisell and none did that ...)- and to bring it to a service center.

Since we live in a middle of nowhere I don;t have to time to schlep the heavy machine 3 hour round trip anywhere.

Thinking 2x about ever buying a Bissell steam cleaner again after this experience.

The usual suction problem with these things is related to a clogged lint filter. I had the same problem as you with my carpet being completely soaked. Try checking the lint filter. It is located in the top clear plastic section (the one with the dial to switch from tool to floor use). There is a small (1 inch square) red plastic filter on the under side. Try flipping open the little door and you will probably find it clogged with hair and carpet fibre. Clean it out and hopefully you will have suction again.

Detergent doesn't dispense.

Water will clean carpets but not very well. For the best results don't put any cleanser in your machine. Soap can clogged up the lines in your machine. When you have soap dispensed or or in the water in your machine you are squirting it onto the carpet and sucking it back up at the same time...the soap and water isn't on the carpet long enough to clean well unless you keep going over the same area many times. To clean better it's really important to vacuum thoroughly going slowly in multiple directions to get as much dry, gritty soil and hair and dust out as possible, it's easy to get these soils out when the carpet is dry if your vacuum is working properly. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.
Get a spray bottle or sprayer and put hot tap water in it, add the cleaning solution to the hot water and spray enough on the carpets to get the face fibers damp...let the hot water solution sit on the carpets 5 or 10 minutes and then use your machine to clean and rinse the soap, water and loosened soils from the carpet fibers. Repeat if necessary. Your carpets will be cleaner because you allowed adequate dwell time for the soap and water to work on the sticky greasy soils attached to the carpet fibers and stay clean longer because the soap is rinsed out of the carpets. Your carpet cleaning machine will last longer too because the water lines, pumps, spray jets, heaters, etc can't get clogged with soap gunk if you don't put soap in it. The method I'm describing is how the best professional carpet cleaners clean carpets. Hiring a quality carpet cleaner cost more up front but the carpets may stay clean two or three times longer, saving a lot of money in the long run. If you clean your carpets using this dual process method you may do a better job with a small portable home or rented cleaner than hiring the average carpet cleaning professional who is trying to give you the lowest price.

Originally worked fine, but after storing it for about 8 months-a year, it still powers on and sucks but it will not squirt the water and soap to wet it, or even spray just the water to rinse. Help!!! I'm...

Hi,

First, check to see that you put the water in the bladder rather than in the clear tank. Second, did you fill the solution bottle? The Bissell shampooer will not spray water if either of these is empty.

Also, if the seal on your take did not fully seal, the water will not come out. Take the tank out and be sure it is firmly seated.
Another reason for no spray could be if the pump isn't primed. To do this, first turn the machine off for at least a minute. Then turn it back on again.

This usually solves most problems. If it doesn't, comment back to us.

I hope this helps. If it does, I would appreciate a vote or comment. Thanks,

Handie Andie

I have a rainbow aquamate carpet shampooer. I cannot get it to pump carpet cleaner.

If it is the one with the big white water supply tank, it needs to soak with water in it for a few Days, then it may take a little bit of running,(10 minutes at the most, at a time, then let it cool, for 30 minutes in between attempts) while you are spraying water out. Make sure the soap control is on the soap bar with suds around it, and not the soap bar that is crossed out. If it is spraying water, you can keep running it. The 10 minute limit, is only if it is not spraying anything.

If it is an earlier one, it has a clogged soap pick up tube, or the soap control cap thing on the end of it.

If it is the latest big blue one, it never will probably work again. All of them must be flushed out after usage before storage, and the new one must have both, the soap and the water passages on the unit sucked out by the Rainbow vacuum, before it is stored. I have never got one of them to work again, once that it was clogged up, from not being cleared out, like it is supposed to be before storage of it.

If you need more help, let me know,
Ralph

Sprayer is not working, but leaks water

I think you have two problems. The leaking is old seals on either the containers, or on the other end (the machine). Try replacing them. There are various part websites for these.
The problem with the spraying could be the belt that turns the pump. Check it. If it's there its probably not it. The next thing could be the little plastic tubes that go to all the componets inside the machine tend to accumulate buildup. Make sure they are all flowing free. Next try the heating element (its inside the handle area) take it apart and clean it. If all those things are checked and it still doesnt work, it might be what was wrong with mine. The all on one container that holds fresh water and dirty water has a leak. I found mine would spray correctly if i had the lid off the container, and as soon as i would put the lid back on it would stop spraying. I found out that The suction going through the container to **** the dirty water in was also putting a suction on the clean water bladder which caused the water to stop flowing out of the clean water bladder. I ended up getting an all new container with bladder because i could not get anything to seal right due to its age and warpage of the plastic. So to determine if yours is the same issue. Just take the lid off the container and then try to spray water. It may take 10 seconds to get all the tubes primed again because the suction will actually **** all the water back up to the container. If you dont want to replace the container, just spray a few passes with the lid off, then put the lid back on to **** the water back up. Hope this helps. I might not write clearly for everyone to understand, but i hope it helps someone.

Will not spray

The heater is probally clogged. Remove the upper housing and locate a rectagular shaped object in the middle of machine. Remove six bottom screws and clean with stiff brush, clear all lines then run 3 tanks of hot water trhought he system to clear it.

Tank not sitting tight

some bissell models this cant really be fixed but some can look at where the tank connects some bolt down some twist in and some have a rubber gasket between the the tank and the machine if this is the case, with the age of the machine the rubber gasket is probably worn out. try replacing it. that gasket flattens out with time and the connection gets loose and it sucks air and dont work. when you said if you pushed down on it it wotked that is a good sign that the gasket is shot. if nothig else find one that you can fit to the machine that will eliminate the loose fit. this will fix your prioblem.
