My HP Photosmart 3210xi cartridge door is also locked in open

My HP Photosmart 3210xi All-In-One cartridge access door is also locked in the open position. Is there some kind of sensor to release so I can close the door? I've never had any problems before with this product.

There's no sensor, it's just a spring and a plastic wedge thing.

Using a #10 torx driver, remove two screws holding the right-hand side panel from the printer. (one in the back, one on top underneath the ink access door.) Unsnap it and set it aside.

Disconnect 3 small ribbon cables and one 5-pin connector that lead from the printer to the access door/scanner.

Remove the lid from the flatbed, then remove the access door from it's hinges. Use the torx driver and unscrew the hinges from the main scanner body.

Lift the hinge assembly from the scanner and push the steel pin out, seperating the two parts of the hinge.

From there you should be able to loosen them up, remove the springs, lubricate them, or find whatever the problem is.

Reassemble and you're done.

I had this problem. We simply sprayed a little silicon lubricant on the two hinges and it worked fine. No disassembly required. Thanks Exmachina!

Before disassembly and all that I tried the advice from exmachina about squirting the hinges with silicon lubricant and decided to try that first. I was concerned though since the door seemed so firmly locked in the open position. I didn't have the silicon stuff but i did have wd 40. With just two squirts of wd and the door worked fine. I have since added a drop or two of light machine oil. Incidently, a fix shop offered to fix for $120. Many thanks to exmachina Bruce

How do u remove old cartridge from printer

  • Turn on your HP Photosmart printer if it is not already on.

  • Reach under the access door handle at the front of the printer beneath the scanner and lift up on the scanner and door until the assembly locks into an open position, revealing the print carriage on the right side of the printer. If replacing a used cartridge, push down on the label of the cartridge to unlock it from the carriage and then lift it out of its slot.

  • Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging--holding the cartridge by its plastic sides. Pull the pink tab covering the copper-colored contacts gently down and then remove the tape from the ink nozzles.

  • Align the cartridge at the front of the slot in the print carriage with the label on the cartridge pointing up. Push the cartridge into the slot until it clicks securely in place.

  • Close the access door by lowering it and the scanner back into position.

Carriage gets stuck, Won't print. Power button starts flashing "red"

Check the following steps for fixing Hp Carriage Jam Error :

Open the print carriage access door. Check for any packing material that may be blocking the internal components. Check for an orange shipping lock that may still be in place on the left side. Pull the shipping lock out, if present, and discard.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Lift the front center of the print carriage access door to open it. Lift the door up until it locks into an open position. Press down on a print cartridge and allow it to spring back up. Lift the cartridge out of the printer. Do the same for the other cartridge. Slide the black cartridge into the slot on the left and the color cartridge into the slot on the right. Press down on each one to lock it into place. Lower the print carriage access door.

Check the print cartridges to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the ink nozzles. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Remove any tape or labels. Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Push in on the tab on the left side of the clean-out door on the back of the printer to open the door. Lift the door out of the printer. Check for any paper jams. Jammed paper can block the printer cartridge carriage from moving. Pull any jammed papaer out.

HP Photosmart 3210xi - some colors (magentas) will not print

Remove the magenta cartridge, and try cleaning the head with alcohol, maybe with a small paint brush or an acid brush. It sounds like ink has dried and plugged up that head.
