Does not having oil in saw cause sawnot to work

Not to my knowledge.....but why would anyone take a chance on running a saw with no oil in it?
I "could be" that if someone else used it and they didn't run it with the right mixture ratio of gas to oil that "running it without oil" could seize up the piston......THAT would then cause the saw not to start.

Saw starts but wont build up any power it fouled two plugs back to back do i have gas mixture wrong

sounds like a rich mixture stihl and huskvarna oil has the same makeup dealers have test tubes for warranty service that tells them what oil was used and will not warranty if wrong oil is used with the proper oil your saw will last for a long time cheap oil does not have the additives needed too keep rings free and inhibit carbon buidlup

How do you fix as carborator for saw that has gas mixed to rich one of my employees thought it would be good to mix it 8 ounces to a gallon

First pour out all of the old mixture. Put in the right mixture. Pour an ounce or two of raw gas down the throat of the carb or inject it wit an eye dropper.(what ever works the best. The raw gasoline will run for a few seconds but will not hurt the engine. Let saw run for a while until the blue/white smoke clears. Running a saw on too much oil mixture is much better than running it on too lean as that is the way the piston is lubricated. The problem with too much oil is that the oil is sticky and clogs the exhaust ports of the 2 cycle engine, but running it on the correct mixture should correct that.

Does the TS400 need engine oil apart from 2 stroke mixture

Hello. No, the oil mix is designed to do all that is necessary. Stihl 50:1 two stroke engine oil or equivalent is recommended for proper operation, cheap oil does not have the additives needed too keep rings free and inhibit carbon build-up. Also do not use BIA or TCW rated oils, or any others with duel purpose ratings.

Thank you

2.0 Cubic Inch Montgomery Ward gas chain saw, 10 inch cutting bar

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 3 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH
