I've had my CF360 for about 2 weeks and I may have run across the same problem you are having. It never happens with the wall charger that came with the phone, but it does occur when I connect using a USB cable from certain computers.
Oddly enough the phone only dings when it is plugged into newer P4, and even one old P3 computer. It does not usually make any dinging noises when I plug it into an older Celeron machine. It does not seem to make a difference if the port is USB1 or USB2, I've tried both.
My first thought was that the newer computers were putting out too much power, but I have sort of come to the conclusion that it may be when they are not putting out enough power. I notice when plugged into the Celeron that the phone will start dinging for a brief period of time if something else starts to draw power, such as the hard drive or the CD drive. Using Windows control panel I have determined that the phone requests 20mA when it plugged in, on all the computers I've tried it on. The micro printing on the supplied wall charger says it outputs 700mA so I have convinced myself that I'm not damaging the phone when it is plugged into the P4 machine, although I'm also probably not getting much of a charge either (I mainly use the USB for data connection, not charging). Even at that I don't leave it on the P4 machine any longer than I need to. The owners manual does have a paragraph or two about low power computers and USB hubs, but never says the phone will ding all the time.
Don't know if I helped, but that is what I've found.
