Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV103 Digital Camcorder
My Sony DCR-TRV103 camcorder is having a problem in playback mode. It appears to be automatically converting to Hi8/8 mode even when the tape was recorded in Digital 8 mode. The result is a blue screen during playback. The problem has progressed over a few-hour period. Initially, the problem was observed with tapes recorded some time ago. When I would record a brief scene to a new tape, playback would be normal. After a bit, the newly recorded scene would also fail to play back. Now, even a freshly recorded scene will not play back. In each case, failure to play back occured when icons appeared on the play back screen indicating switching to Hi8/8 rather than digital 8 mode.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Hi8 playback problem
your guides have come loose , probably - the digital sound will be next to go because the bottom edge of your tapes are being folded - open the cassette tape lid by pressing the small pin near one hinge and gently lifting the door - if there are any creases ? get the guides aligned ! to protect your library ; ( if there are no creases , try a sony d8 cleaning tape - once ! before getting a repair quote ) ;

SOURCE: No playback on DCR-TRV103
In playback mode the lCD displays the battery time, hi8 symbol and the tape counter. all the functions work the tape will play, rewind, fast forward. The screen stays blank on playback and the tape counter stays at 0:00:00 eventhough I can see the tape turning. I also hooke the camera to my tv and I got no picture.

Clean the tape heads and see if that makes a difference. If that doesn't work, it could be the tape motor is going out. Thats typical behavior when that happens.
