Question about Sub-Zero Refrigerators

1 Answer

My refrigerator just went black and it sounds like the motor turned off . There are no lights inside so there is no indication that even the freezer is working, The water and ice are working and there are light on the freezer side but you cannot hear the motor.

Thank you Benjamin but I don't have an appliance bulb.. and it's too late to go out and find one. The temp panael is on the refrig side not freezer but it seemed as tho the freezer was still working . Anyhow, my appliance guy called , who had just worked on the frig and he told my husband to do something(I don't know) but strange as it may seem, the frig began working within a half hour of going black... I have no idea what happened...a nd it has kept its temp

Did you try replacing the bulb? Are you sure it isn't just burnt out and the motor just stopped running or has the freezer been warming up and its been off for a long time? If the light isn't just burnt out then the control board sounds like the culprit or the power hot line going to that side is damaged. Otherwise if it is burnt, then you may have a faulty thermostat in the freezer side to start with, but you would need to test it. Let me know how this goes.

Why does my Hotpoint ff187e frost free fridge freezer lights flash and the alarm sound even after reseting them as per manual. rest them ok for a while but then restart what's the problem?

Fridge keeps beeping or buzzing: The following is for Frigidaire models but others can be addressed similarly.

Several Frigidaire refrigerator models have an electronic control panel on the freezer door the owner can use to adjust the internal temperature, dispense ice and water and receive notification about issues such as the need to replace a water filter. The refrigerators also emit a beep for various actions and as an occasional alarm. Determining what causes the beeps necessitates some troubleshooting.
Temperature Controls ·A Frigidaire refrigerator's display panel blinks when the control panel is touched to set temperature controls. After pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, press the arrow buttons within five seconds to increase or decrease the desired temperature. If you do not press the arrow buttons within five seconds after pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, the refrigerator beeps to indicate the current setting will stay in place.

Door Open ·When you leave the refrigerator or freezer door open, the refrigerator beeps. Also, the "Door Ajar" indicator illuminates on the appliance's display panel. Shutting the door and pressing "Alarm Reset" stops the beeping and turns off the "Door Ajar" indicator light.
·The Frigidaire refrigerator has a control lock feature that prevents use of its control panel or dispensers when the unit is locked. When the control lock is active, a beep sounds when a keypad or dispenser is pressed. Release the control lock by pressing the "Control Lock" icon for three seconds. A beep will sound, and the icon's light will go out.
Power Reset ·A power reset is occasionally necessary if the Frigidaire refrigerator's control panel does not work normally or a reset function on the keypad does not work. A power reset involves disconnecting power to the refrigerator by unplugging its power cord from the electrical outlet, waiting 30 seconds and plugging the power cord back into the electrical outlet. When the control panel resets, a beep sounds. If the refrigerator beeps even after a power reset and the beeps' source is not known, contact Frigidaire.

You said the freezer is working fine, so that would rule out compressor failure. If the fan motor is working on the system, check the vents and make sure they are not blocked. Sometimes, food will be placed in fron of the vents inside the freezer and inside the refrigerator compartment, blocking the exchange of air. If vents are not obstructed it may be the circuit board that controls or regulates the temperature for the refrigerator side. If your unit has a control setting, turn it off for a few minutes, this will allow it to re-set, then turn it back on and re-set the temperature settings if they don't go back to factory pre-set. Most units are pre-set at the factory for economy, but the consumer can set them lower or higher manually for more desired settings. If it is the control, you can usually replace it yourself with a new part and save money, or have a service tech do it. A power surge or power failure could have disrupted the system and caused the original factor settings to be lost, and they need to be reset. Hope that helps.

Kenmore 795.7130 bottom freezer model, loud noise when fan kicks on. from what I have read it is the evaporator fan. how difficult to change?

We had a problem with a loud noise when the motor turned on. Didn't know what it was but after a week or two, the noise went away and the Refrigerator was no longer cold (even though the freezer was fine). At this point, instead of temperatures showing inside the refrigerator read out, there was an error code: ER FF. The circulator motor was no longer working. This I read was due to an ice build up which binded the motor. We shut off the unit for 24 hours to defrost it and it worked fine after that. Do this before calling a repair man for service.

Sounds like a defrost failure.
Look on the back wall of the freezer from the inside.
If it is covered in ice your defrost system has failed.
Also check the fan motor in the freezer.
If it is not running it must be replaced.

GE GSS201EPJ freezer working, refrigerator not

Sounds like the defrost heater is bad . Do you see frost on the rear inside freezer wall ? Even a light layer , indicates a defrost problem . Most probably , the heater pt # WR55X10101 . You will have to rremove the inside lower freezer panel ( 2 screws ) and below the coils , is the heater , held on by 2 screws . The new part , will come with an extension , you may have to add to the blue wire , to make it long enough to reach the heater , when moving the blue wire from the left side to the right .
