Which router are you talking about? Since they are all different, you have to tell me which Brand (LInksys, D-Link etc.) Model (WRT65G, DI-604 etc.) Reversion (if applicable - it often says something like "v1" or "rev3")You can find this information on the sticker at the bottom of your router.

To configure the D-Link router, you will next need to open a web browser and type http://www.192.168.0.1
You should see the administration screen of the D-link router, type in admin and leave the password filed blank.

If that did not work, reset the router to factory default and try again.
