You may have a stuck gas valve. I would recommend replacing the gas valve. or have a qualified heating repair technician look at it for about $45. The price of replacing a gas valve by a heating repair company can rang from $300 to $450. The gas valve to a contractor cost $150. Find more heating repair pricing here.

Bradford-white water heater wont heat water.the blower motor hums but wont blow.also, pilot light wont light,is this just a safety feature?

Water heater is not identified and gas valve is not known.
Review options below:

1) Add a comment and describe what gas control valve is on the water heater, and model number from label on side of unit. Include what you have tried so far.

2) Try unplugging water heater and see if water heater resets.
Disconnect blower from gas valve, then plug blower in to see it it operates.
This will eliminate or include blower as suspect.

The valve on my Thermoheat heater RMC FA50 will turn from the off position therefore I can not light or start the heater. It is stuck in the off position.

I'm assuming this is a gas heater valve? Typically, one must slightly depress the valve in order to turn it to pilot or on--a safety feature of nearly all gas appliances...

Water is pouring steaming hot water from a copper pipe on the outside of my GSW Series 6 40 gallon water heater onto my basement floor. What is wrong?

Sounds like the TP valve is releasing water.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-leaking.html

To protect your property right now, turn off water heater:
Gas: turn gas valve to pilot so pilot light stays lit but burner will not turn on.
Electric: flip circuit breaker off

Next turn off water valve located on cold water line above water heater.
Last, open tub faucet to relieve pressure on tank.
Once pressure is off after a few moments, close tub valve.

The question is why is the TP valve releasing water.

1) Stuck TP valve: raise lever on TP valve and let back down slowly

2) bad TP valve: replace TP using same temp-pressure rating available from hardware store. Wrap teflon tape around threads and screw new TP valve clockwise until very tight. Make sure water is cool before removing valve from water heater. If you take out valve when water heater is hot, it will spew scalding water all over you. This is serious. Let the water cool down for several hours.

3) Runaway heating caused by bad thermostat
Gas: buy replacement valve at Lowes or plumbing store and replace according to instructions.
Electric: several causes. Test parts to determine which needs replacement.

Replaced gas valve on commercial water heater started the water heater up and now it has smoke coming out of the top. any suggestions

Did you replace the valve with exactly the same part number as original? There is usually pressure adjustment that can be made for both the pilot pressure as well as main gas pressure on the valve. How long was the heater out of service? Is there any dirt or debris in the heater that are burning out?

I have an Americdan Water Heater 50 gal. gas. 38000BTU the pilot light does not stay lit. what can i do?

Usual problems are:. Bad thermocouple, Bad vent, blowing pilot outl. Too small of pilot flame. Low gas pressure Leaking water heater, dripping on pilot. Bad gas valve. If your water heater is more than 8 years old and the gas valve is bad, I would replace the water heater. IF you decide to replace the pilot or the gas vavle, be sure to mount pilot exactly as is was designed. If you replace gas valve get an exact replacment or a "listed" replacement. If you'rd doing this and it's older, replace the temperature/relief vavle also. Water heaters can be very dangeroius if not properly repaired/maintained.

The gas heater will not turn off. I have removed

disconnect one wire from the gas valve if the flame quits it is a thromostat problem
if not try tapping the gas valve if the flame wont go out then the valve is stuck and must be replaced if the flame goes out after you tap on it the valve still needs to be replaced

On demand water heater won't stay lit

It's the gas valve. This pretty common. The thermocouple produces a small amount of current from the heat and this current holds the safety valve open inside the gas valve. Sometimes the safety valve gets sticky and your symptoms describe it exactly. People are always frustrated by the time it is certain to be the valve. You need to replace the valve. No one is allowed to fix a gas valve - liability - gas etc. Replace the gas valve and your problem will be solved. I am a master plumber/gasfitter and I am confident that this will solve the problem. Been there - done that.

Get a can of penetrating oil and spray the valve, pipe all around, everything. Let it set awhile and do it again. Use a big pipe wrench, with a pipe on the end of the handle if you need it to give you the leverage and it will definitely open.
