Usually the humming sound is the compressor.is the fan running? If the fan is not running get on the roof and stick a long screw driver through the holes in the cover and move the fan. it may be seezed.

I have H. Bay model HB40F dehumidifier. It does not seem to ever actually start the compressor. There is a plastic box on the side of the compressor that contains a couple of coily looking things. It...

It is probably the start device(the coil looking things), as long as you don't hear the compressor humming. A loud hum is a lock compressor and the cost would be far greater than a new unit.

Unit does not seem to be cooling

Ensure the power supply is 120/22/240 VAC or 12/24 VDC power, with AC power as the preferable source. An improper power supply may result in poor performance or lack of cooling by the refrigerator.
Ensure the unit is plugged in and turned "ON" if it does not seem to be working. Check the fuse, located on the side of the inverter case.

Listen to the compressor, which is located in the rear of the unit near the bottom. If the compressor is not running,it makes a humming sound, disconnect power to the unit and contact a service technician, as either the compressor or thermostat may be defective. If the compressor is running,
Turn the temperature control dial if the refrigerator does not seem to be cold or warm enough. Number 1 on the dial is the warmest and number 5 is the coldest. After changing the temperature control dial, leave the refrigerator door closed for several hours to allow the temperature to change.

HAS POWER , BUT SEEMS TO BE LOCKED UP. The sound that it makes is a hum and no air in or out

The electric motor may have seized up from moisture or contamination. Make sure all air has been released by opening a valve or fitting.Disconnect the compressor from its power source, (Tape the power cord plug to compressor handle for extra safety) Remove motor cover, try to rotate the motor with a screw driver using just a little pressure. If the motor has brushes, make sure they are in contact and do not need replacement. Check to see if the motor has lubrication points. If so us a little WD40 or other oil based product.Place cover back on motor. Plug unit in to power source. If the unit still 'hums' turn switch off. I believe this compressor is oil less.If so the motor and compressor may be connected as a unit.If the compressor itself is froze up you may be able to separate the two and try freeing any frozen parts, again making sure the unit is disconnected. If the compressor does not respond to the suggestions given consider replacement if out of warranty.Good luck!

Yes it is a very big concern. It sounds to me like your condenser is dirty and the compressor gets hot and goes off on overload. You can tell by putting your hand NEAR the compressor.Be careful as the compressor can be very hot

It sounds like your unit is low on freon or the compressor is not kicking in. If the compressor kicks in you can hear it turn the unit on fan only or turn the thermostat off then turn the unit to demand cool you should hear a hum even vibration when the unit kicks in. If there is no audible hum ect... your compressor is probably not kicking in. The selector switch the temp switch the capacitor for the compressor or the compressor its self could be bad. good luck if you need to know how to test any of the above let us know

Carrier Compressor Issues?

When you shut it off and back on it slugged the compressor if you turn it off and back on before the pressures equalize between the high and low sides it will slug the compressor and it will not run should let sit for five minutes or so before restarting. The humming is either the compressor making noise usually common for the compressor to make some noise or the fan motor bearings are getting bad on the outside unit. If the unit works normal probably not much you can do till it breaks if it is the compressor it is more economical to replace the whole unit if it is just the fan motor it is worth changing. You could take an amp draw on the fan motor and the compressor to see if the are within the limits on the name plate of the outside unit.

Have an LG dehimidifier which seems to have stop working

Could be a failed compressor start relay. They are replaceable. Get one at an appliance parts store for your model or a generic one. Make sure you are unplugged before changing.

Problem with this unit

The controll board for the unit is faulty. The contacts for the compressor are stuck closed. The humming is the compressor running when the unit is off.
