Question about GE Profile Harmony DPGT750EC Electric Dryer

Help Identifying dryer part

I have a GE dryer, model DHDSR46EG1WW
The ''overheat safety switch'' broke and fell apart.
This is the part that is wired to the start switch and the clock. Presumably it shuts down the dryer if it overheats. It is located on the top left of the heater when looking at it from the back of the unit.
Is that what I want?

I would question the information they provided. The "safety thermostat" is listed as part number WE4M137. This is designed to blow like a fuse in the event of an overheat condition and is located on the top left side of the heating element (as viewed from the back).

Your dryer has two other thermostats (which one of the part numbers is the one you have listed). I do not know which is which, without looking at a wiring diagram, but I'm guessing one is the internal bias thermostat and the other is the hi-limit thermostat. The safety thermostat, however, would trip first in the event of an overheat condition. You can view an exploded view diagram of your dryer at Look under the "Drum" heading for items 505, 506, and 507. I believe you need item 507.

Appliancepartspros carries the part for $35. carries the part for $40. carries the part for $37.

I hope this helps you.

When I push the start itll start but then right away it stops

If your dryer only runs when you hold the start button in, you probably have a broken dryer belt or it came off inside. There is a belt safety switch near the motor that if the belt comes off or breaks, it won't let the dryer run. There are 2 screws in the top lip of the door area that the door would close against facing up into the dryer top. Remove the screws and lift the top up. If you don't see a skinny black belt around the drum, it broke and fell down inside.

Washer does not work but dryer does

Sounds like a safety switch is bad like door switch, or a wire has come off or disconnected somewhere. it will have to be taken apart to fix it. If i can help further just give me a shout.

Ge profile dryer does not heat at times

Sounds like one of two things.
1) you have a bad connection, specifically, a loose connection that is making contact once in a while.
2) one of the "overheat thermostat switches" is failing.
If you wish to fix it yourself, you will need to dismantle the machine and have a testing instrument to look for the problems.
Be advised, however, if you take it all apart and it happens to be on a "I will be working now, thank you very much" cycle, you may not find anything!
It really needs to be "not working" for the flaw to show up.
Be blessed.

Dryer runs for 20 secs or so then shuts off

Dryers today are having more and more safety switches to shut them off in case of overheating, and to prevent fire.
Some are even up to six overheat switches and a fuse.
Unfortunately, along with the safety, came sloppier construction, which meant lots more lint collecting inside your machine.
Someone needs to take the whole dryer apart and clean it, because the accumulation of lint is causing one of the overheat switches to "pop".
I have cleaned several in the last few months that had up to 2 shoe boxes of lint inside.
Be blessed.

Replace broken start knob on ge dryer model #DHDSR46EG1WW . i was just using the little post, but my son broke that off and now it doesn't work at all.

I have one up at the hunting camp. I remove the switch and took a dremmel tool and cut a slot in it. I Use a flat blade screwdriver to start the motor. It is just 2 wires going to that momentary switch. It is an old dryer and I didn't want to spend the money on a new one. Anyway you remove the back of the control panel. (Unplug the dryer) Lift the locking tab up and twist the switch a hair. It drops right out.a817090.jpgSee the tab sticking out. Just lift it up a little bit and give the switch a twist.

I have a GE profile harmony gas dryer that says "a problem has been detected call 1-800-GE-Cares' on the display. I just finished putting in the new dryer drum that fell apart. Any suggestions? Reset...

If there were no problems before replacing drum I would go back and make sure all 3 wiring connections are made behind the door panel. From there this machine is too complex to diagnose over the phone.
