Patricia, could be a faulty switch, wire or motor, if you do not hear motor running when switched on.

How can I get the brush roller to work

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

First things first, unplug your vacuum and turn it over. Check your brush roll for any large amount of debris. This usually comes in the form of carpet fibers, or hair strands wrapped around the brush roll. Try manually rotating the brush roll, this will help unclog any hidden debris.

Take off your vacuums bottom plate, this is usually held on by two screws on opposing sides of the bottom of your vacuum. Remove the brush roll and examine the belt to see if it is applying tension to the brush roll. If the belt is loose this would cause the brush roll to not work properly.

What's the quality of the bristles on the roll? If they look worn down, or loose then it's time to replace the brush roll itself.

My vax power pet 6 keeps cutting out after about 10 seconds, sometimes less. i have changed the filters, theres no blockages, the sunction is great til it cuts out, ive even changed the on/off switch.

I had the same problem, after a few seconds the VAC cut off try turning off the Brush Roll mine then stayed on. the problem is with the rotation brush in the bottom of the VAC you need to take the cap off the end of the brush (the side where you can see the metal pin) it is not easy to get off but it can be removed. if its like mine it will be full of hair, this makes it hard to rotate. once cleaned put the cap back on, put the rotating brush back and it should work. This has resolved my problem.

Brush roller won.t turn. It turns for a sec. then shuts off. I have cleaned all clogs. This is a shark navigator. Can I remove bottom of vac to access the roller? The manual doesn,t mention this as a...

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance of your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first let's focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they lose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuum's belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

I can not get the new belt to rotate on my vaccum. The roller will not turn when it is put back in place. Any suggestions?

If by roller you mean the beater brush that the belt is attached to, you might try taking the beater brush out of the unit and clean both ends. There should be some kind of plastic or rubber holders on each end of the beater brush. The brush itself is supported by these holders, but the brush needs to be able to rotate in the holders. Sometimes they get gummed up and need to be cleaned in order for the brush to turn freely. Clean them up, apply some WD40 and make sure the belt is properly attached. Hope this helps.
