Which motor? compressor, condenser mtr next to the compressor or the mtr inside the frzr?
first chk to see if the fan mtr inside the frzr is running, if mtr is runnnig, then you have a problem w/compressor or relay loacted on compressor. alot of those compressor are locking up for no reason and maytag has a RECALL notice on their refrigs. contact maytag to see if your model is effected.

Having the area around the door getting warm is normal but getting hot may indicate a defective condenser fan motor or the condenser coils have become blocked with dust. You are going to need to unplug power, pull your refrigerator away from the wall, remove the front kick plate and the rear cover on the back of your refrigerator to get to the condenser coil and fan just to see what is going on. If the fan is not running strong when plugged in then there may be a problem with the=> 61005323 Condenser Fan Motor Above is a video that will help you on cleaning the condenser coils. If you think there is a problem with the fan motor and would like my assistance please let me know. As for a service manual I don't believe there is one for your model number. I do have a manual that is basically the same thing if you like? Thanks Sea Breeze

Side by Side Maytag MSD2542VEB00 freezer working but fridge is not

you took off the back inside freezer wall and the evaporator coil had frost on it?or was it even over the whole coil,if so that's what it should do,all that happens is that coil gets cold, the evaporator fan blows the cold air over into the fridge section and then there are air vents so the air just keeps circulating,in your machine you have a difusser or a damper part number W10151374,it opens and lets cold air in from the freezer and when it gets cold enough it closes, first thing open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing,if you don't you could have a bad evap fan motor,if the fan is blowing but no air blowing into the fridge then it sounds like you have a bad damper,if you open the fridge door the damper is up on the top left side wall,go here and this is a picture of it
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Damper/W10151374/1454298 you can also go here and look at part number 4,this is your adaptive defrost board

let me know what you find, also if you remove the bottom front kick panel, there should be a tech sheet to tell you how to put that machine into defrost manually, look for a paper tucked into the panel or taped inside that bottom cabinet that the panel covers

My quick freeze section of my side by side Kenmore Coldspot model 106.54582400 stopped freezing. Then the refrigerator became room temp. So far the food in the rest of the freezer is still frozen but not...

Hello, a lot of times it just is a good cleaning. That is most the time the problem.

To fix this problem, a little cleaning is all that is needed. When the room temperature is cooler the air going over the condenser coil will still get enough heat away to keep the refrigerator cooling. However when the room starts to heat up and the air does not absorb as much of the heat the refrigerator will start to get warmer.

Pull the front grill off of the refrigerator and wash that out. Then if you have a good vacuum with a crevice tool, reach in from the front and the back of the refrigerator to remove as much of the dust and dirt as possible. Often I will then use my air compressor to blow out more of the dust and dirt and continue to vacuum as needed. Use patience as you do this, as it will take time and blowing from both the front and back a number of times to really get the coil to clean out.

Now that you know what to do, why wait for the warm weather and for the refrigerator to start acting up before cleaning the coil? Get out the soap and water, the vacuum and air compressor and clean it out now. The cleaning will also help your refrigerator to run more efficiently and save you money.

A lot of times, your best to unplug fridge as you clean it to let motor cool, as this will help when you get done cleaning it for it to fire back up. If this does not do, it next step is probably having to replace the starter relay that goes to the compressor, that is what kicks the fridge into high speed on compressor. Thanks Mike, rate this please accordingly .

Where would I find the model number for my Amana side by side refrigerator. The problem I have is that the freezer section is keeping solids frozen, but not ice cream and concentrated juices.I noticed the...

Most of the time when the strip is hot it is due to the condenser coils being clogged. If you pull the kick plate off under the door, you should find some coils with dust, hair, and other various debris that has to be cleaned off the coils. These coils can become insullated with dust bunnies and not allow the freon to release enough of the heat as it flows through the coils. The coils actually run through the cabinet where the metal strip is getting hot. Break out a vacuum and clean off the coils and then give it a day and the unit should begin operating properly again. If you can't find the coils underneath remove the back access panel and they should be located to the right of your fan. Also make sure the fan itself is running. The fan is what moves the air flow under the fridge to cool the coils, if it is not running it can cause the same issue.

What's the easiest way to clean dust out from around coils and motor?Coils are sideways and access is very limited.

I\'ve been struggling trying to keep our 2 goldens dog hair from the coils of our 8 year old Kenmore side by side with "W" compressor coils, but like everyone else was unable to clean past the first set of coils.

I came up with this solution that worked to get much of the big stuff, hair and bunnies, off of the further back coils. Not perfect but much better than nothing.

Removing the back lower panel I was able to snake a crevice attachment from our vacuum down the right side of the coils (left side looking from back)

I made a compressed air contraption to blow the dust/hair across the coils using a compressed air nozzle that I added a 10" long tube and a 90 degree deflector

From the front of the fridge, on the left side of the coils, I snaked the compressed air nozzle towards the back and started directing the air stream blowing towards the vacuum crevice tool at the opposite side of the coils.

The compressed air dislodged the hair/dust enough that the vacuum was able to suck it away. Again, not perfectly but certainly much better than I was able to clean the coils in the past.

I suppose you could use a can of compressed air and add some sort of deflector if you don\'t have a compressor.

I then got to thinking how to prevent the dust from accumulating on the coils, I\'m going to try an air conditioner filter. I cut it slightly oversized to fit the front opening then split it in half to make it thinner for more air flow.

Picture taken before making the filter thinner.

For years I had my calendar remind me monthly to vacuum the coils but now hopefully I\'ll be able to simply change the air filter.

Maytag side by side fridge makes vibration noise

Mine is a different model, and less than three years old, but the vibrating noise was really annoying. I would shift the unit or the door slightly, and it would stop for a while, as you reported. I took a few minutes, applied pressure to different areas, up and down, inside and out. The noise was louder near the floor. I removed the plastic grill and applied upward pressure on the wires covering the coils - it was loose. I noticed an accumulation of dust, and vacuumed as far as I could reach around the underneath area; also pulled fridge out and vacuumed a dust-covered vent on the back near the floor. Was planning to insert some kind of wedge under the loose part, but when I put everything back in place, the vibration stopped - now I only hear a gentle hum. Seems I did something right in this process.

How do I clean coils?

It is very important to clean condenser coils on forced-air refrigerators such as side-by-side and built-in models at least twice a year (if you have a refrigerator with the black coils mounted on the back, these coils don't require semi-annual cleaning). Here's how to do it: 1) Pull the refrigerator away from the wall and unplug it or, if it's a built-in model, turn off its circuit breaker. 2) Remove the cover panel to reveal the coils. On most models, the kick plate or top trim plate simply lifts off. You may have to remove a few screws to remove a back cover. 3) With a long, narrow nozzle on your vacuum, clean out all of the dust and debris (at an appliance parts store, you can also buy a special, long-handled brush that looks somewhat like a bottle brush for this job). 4) Replace the cover, and then plug the electrical cord back in or turn the circuit back on.
