I connected the box between my phone and the wall phone jack but all the screen shows is 'NO CALLS' - no date or time.

The batteries are installed properly and the phone has Caller ID as the call number/name comes up on the phone scree, however the box screen shows no change, plus the NEW CALL indicator does not light up. What might be wrong?

SOURCE: The display doesn't show the caller ID

probably your phone have a incompatible call ID system (probably FSK), and your line is DTMF. Needs a standard converter, from DTMF to FSK.

Display shows line in use after installing batteries but phone is not plugged into wall

Phones show "in use" when the line voltage is low because another set is off-hook, which also happens when the line is unplugged. In other words, that is normal.

What happens when you do plug in the line? If it still shows in use then, the jack might be wired with reversed polarity. Try it elsewhere - someone else's house/office where the phones work "normally" to see what it does.

How do i reset the phone?

What kind of phone is it? Do you have the power plugged in AND the modular cord plugged into a phone jack in your wall? Is it a system phone(one that is used on a phone system like an office would have)? If it is a system phone it will not work without being into the system.

My phones say "phone in use", but they are not. Cannot receive calls or dial out.

Whenever I see this issue, I grab an old corded phone as a test phone. The line in use message could be a problem with the phone line or the phone. First make sure that the base has power and try a new phone data cord (RJ-11). Next plug in a test phone to that jack and see if you get a dial tone (preferably with the new data cord).

If you do not get a normal dial tone, try another jack on the line. If you still do not have a dial tone, find where the phone service comes in and open the box. If you have a new service, you'll find an RJ-11 jack in the box. In that case, plug your test phone into the jack. If there is no dial tone or you can't test at the service box, contact your phone company. They will test the line and fix any outside problem.

If it is an inside problem, inspect all visible wiring and open the wall plate if only one jack is bad. There are two standard types of wall plate connections. For one, you strip the conductors and secure them under a screw. For the other, you use a punch down tool to press the conductors (without stripping them) into the right spot in the keystone jack. This tool is available at many home improvement stores in the wiring section. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for a picture of the correct wiring.

If the problem is with your phone only, try to reset it. Take the batteries out of the handsets and unplug the power cord from the base and the wall outlet. Wait a few minutes and then plug everything back in. Make sure that the power brick is warm (getting power) and that the handset batteries are fully charged.

If the reset doesn't help, you should contact the manufacturer. If the phone is under warranty have them repair it. (If it is out of warranty, decide if it is worth fixing.) Most of these phones are not meant to be repaired by the consumer.

I hope this helps.

KX-TG6441 Phone shows "in

You have a short circuit somewhere...start by unplugging the phone from the phone jack in the wall. Wait 15 minutes or so for the line to clear, then try calling your number from another phone. If you hear a ring, the problem is either in your phone internally, or the cord connecting the phone to the jack (which can be replaced at Radio Shack or similar). BTW, are there other phones in the house? If so, do the same with them one at a time to isolate the problem. If disconnecting all phones (and waiting) doesn't clear the problem you have a short elsewhere, such as house wiring, or the phone jacks. But a busy signal ALWAYS indicates a short... good luck.

If downloading is going on and some one calls us then downloading gets cancelled . Its irritating...

To solve this problem, you MUST connect the phone line DIRECTLY from the wall jack (wall outlet) to the back of the PC. If the phone line goes to any other device, such as an answering machine or the phone itself, you will be disconnected each time someone calls you, which is the problem you've described.

The phone line should go from the wall DIRECTLY into the modem on the computer into the WALL jack on the modem. You can then run another phone line from the OUT jack on the modem to the phone or an answering machine.

It might help you to visualize it this way:

WALL ---phone_line--- COMPUTER --- phone_line --- PHONE or ANSWERING MACHINE

Another way to think of this is to put the COMPUTER "between" the WALL and the PHONE (or answering machine, whatever you might have). When the call goes from the wall to the computer FIRST, you can't be knocked offline. When the call goes to ANY OTHER device BEFORE it goes to the computer, you CAN be knocked offline.

Best of luck with this; let us know if you have any questions or need more help solving this problem.

Every thing works except can,t get incoming calls and out going calls

First check if the phone jack and cable are good. (I like to plug in an old corded phone for this.) If you have a dial tone with the other phone and can make calls, try the new cable on the base of the cordless phone. If the problem persists, then the phone needs service. (Cordless phones are not meant to be user serviced.)

If neither phone has a dial tone at that jack, try another jack. If only the one jack is bad, open it up and check for loose or broken wires. (Most jacks terminate either at screw terminals with stripped wires or keystone jacks that require a special tool to push the wire down. A cheap version of the tool is sold with many keystone jacks and others are available separately at many home improvement stores. Check the aisle for wiring a house.) A RJ-11 wiring diagram is available here: http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx .

Find where your phone connection comes in, open that box and check what type of connection is there. If it is a RJ-11 connection, try your phone at that point. (If it isn't RJ-11, you will need the phone company to check the line.) If there is no dial tone at the service connection, the phone company will repair it at their expense. If the problem is inside, check all exposed wires for damage. If the problem is inside a wall, you may need a professional. Your phone company will fix it for a fee.

I hope this helps.

My LCD Prostar 816 shows the Speaker light flashing rapidly. When I click on it, it takes me to an Internal Page screen. I can clear out of that, but I get the flashing Speaker light again. This happened...

Aflashinf speaker key indicates that the phone is fowarded. It's either call foward all calls or call foward on busy.
To cancel call forward all calls, press #11 (with the handset in the cradle), then press your own dss button or dial you own extension number (21-36), and press #.
Canceling call foward on busy uses the same steps but uses #12 instead of #11 for the first step.

I have an old western electric push button phone that won't dial out but can receive calls. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Old western electric sets (2500, 2554, 2200 etc.) had a polarity sensitive dialpad which means the telephone line had to be wired a certain way at the jack for the dial to work. Try switching the green wire and the red wire with each other at the wall jack, that should take care of it.

Dial Tone Appears and Disappears

Any store offering phones will have replacement cables for low prices; replace this first. Your wall jack could also be damaged although the ones used by installers is generally very long-lived.
