Possible problem in foot control or speed control
as it less than a year old it will be under warranty so take it in to a service agent and have it checked under warranty

Why does my old Janome sewing machine suddenly not sew a straight stitch anymore, but keeps throwing a zig zag every so often, after years of behaving ok?

Question edited for clarity, the name 'Jerome' to 'Janome'.
Question moved to maker category.

If it is a manual machine, something has come loose. If it electronic, you may be able to reset the control board.

They need servicing every 18 months to 2 years irrespective of how often you use them.

You are the only person to have this error.

Oil a machine that has been unused for 5 years

1. turn your machine few times by hand
2. mix your machine oil half and half with mineral turp, use that on all oil points, this will soften and help remove all hardened old oil,
3. run machine on few stitches on old rags to get rid of old oil
4. re-grease with your machine oil, run again and use normally.
5. re-grease machine on all points daily for next week or so and then, depending on the load monthly is fine

this should solve your greasing problem :-)

My mom's old singer will start sewing then slows down to a stop.

It may need a REALLY thorough cleaning & oiling, Cindy, including the motor bearings. The motor's windings may be getting weak, too, or the new belt may be slipping.

My brother Se 400 which is only a few months old just started running really slow. When I disconnect the foot petal and do the manual botton "the arrow button" it still runs slow. I don't...

have you checked to make sure the power cord is pushed in correctly?
if the power cord isn't the problem then it may need to be checked by a service tech, because it's not suppose to be running slow just a few months after you bought it.
I would call the people you bought it from & tell them what it's doing & see if they'll give you another one, I've been sewing for 30+ years & I wouldn't keep the machine.
good luck

My machine continues to run after i take my foot off the pedal.

Undo the foot control and take out the little square bit called a suppressor which you don't need these days anyway and it should be fine.

Motor is sluggish, Necchi Model#4795

Set machine to wind the bobbin to check for how fast the machine will run. I believe it will run fast or slow according to how hard you depress the foot control. If it runs fast and slow you have a problem in the machine. Most likely the machine, if turned by hand, is hard to turn and it needs to be professionally serviced. before it is ruined.

Machine running slow then just stopped

Grand Lake Sew and Vac does not repair sewing machines. They send them to a repair place in Alameda. Someone comes to pick up the broken machines every Tuesday. Repairs are not timely and can be pricey,
