Hi Darlene,

If you are using Windows then please try this out:

Classic View
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Keyboard

Category View
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mouse and other Hardware > Keyboard

in the menu just enable it by checking the box.

Look at the top set of keys on your keyboard - Usually there are lite blue icons that are apart of your function keys - Extra key function to help manage more with your laptop. Ok, the bottom left side of your keyboard has a FN key (Function) Press the FN key and then the touchpad icon key to enable or disable your touchpad.

I was cleaning my laptop keyboard and accidentally popped off the 'N' key, I'm pretty sure the brackets are still intact, but I don't know how to reattach it, could you explain how please?

Hello and welcome to FixYa,

Carefully remove the cap from any other working key so the key retainer stays connected to the keyboard.
keyboard-key-repair-2.jpg Take a closer look at the key retainer, it's connected to the keyboard at four different points.keyboard-key-repair-3.jpg Assemble the disconnected retainer the same way as one on the keyboard and put it back in place.keyboard-key-repair-4.jpg Put the key cap on the retainer and snap the cap back in place.keyboard-key-repair-5.jpg

It is that simple! They should just 'snap' right back on!

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

Accidentally programmed keyboard

Did you try going into Control Panel and then clicking on the Keyboard icon. Next click on the key settings and then you can re-program the keys to work as you need them to. Bud

Keyboard key not working

If it is just one letter then you most likely have a bad keyboard.

Try an external keyboard, if the 'c' is still not working with the external then it's probably some weird software issue. But, if the 'c' is ok on the external you will probably have to replace the keyboard. Replacement keyboard are pretty easy to find on ebay or the web and are usually very easy to replace.

Compatible?

As long as you can plug it into the laptop, it should recognize the keyboard straight away. With a laptop in mind make sure you get the usb version of the keyboard (that is if your laptop is modern enough to have usb ports).
