SOURCE: MFC 210C Ink Problems

Steve,

did you watch the display after replacing the cart?
Very often the machine asks if you have changed the cart and demands an answer (1 for yes).

You can try to do an update of the firmware, too. Go to www.brother.com , choose your country and then your machine. Download a small update tool and run it.

If it aint getting better:
Do unplug from power outlet (even though you have done already) wait 10 Min. leave scanner cover open and take all carts out. Plugin to power again and leave scanner open. Wait uintil machine gives a warning signal. Reinsert carts and close cover: now watch the display and give always the answer YES(1).

SOURCE: How to check ink level on brother MFC-9440CN?

Hello,
Run the Brother Control Center. Click Device settings. Click where it says Inklevel.

A simpler way is Start-->All Programs-->Brother--> ...-->Status Monitor.
An icon will lodge itself on the tray (a printer). When icon is clicked on, the inklevels will show.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: I replaced the inkjet cartridges in a Brother 210c

Just unplug the machine and plug it back in while you hold the stop key for about 10 seconds. Usually clears up and resets ink levels.

SOURCE: How to Override Ink Level Gauge When Using Refilled Cartridges

Above link great.
If you have a newer print cartridge cart, look for the little window. I put a sticker over the little window on the Brother (innobella) LC38 cartridge cart and it worked great :)
Despite finding a fix for this problem, I think this is a rip off setting on the brother printers and I will never buy another Brother printer for this reason.

My hp deskjet 6940 inkjet printer doesn't show me level of ink in cartridge

Print a diagnostic page If the steps above have not helped, print and evaluate a diagnostic page to see if the cartridges or the printer is causing the problem.
  1. Make sure the printer is on and loaded with unused, plain, white paper.
  2. Press and hold the Power button and then press the Cancel button. Release both buttons. The diagnostic page prints. Figure 1: Power and Cancel buttonsc00584735.gif 1 - Cancel button 2 - Power button
Step 4: Note which cartridges printed which areas of the diagnostic page You must identify which cartridge printed which part of the diagnostic page, so that if you find defects on the page, you will know which cartridge is the problem. However, you can install different combinations of print cartridges in your printer, and different cartridge combinations print different diagnostic page patterns. Your diagnostic page may not look exactly like the picture below, but the right and left cartridges will print in the same areas of the page no matter which cartridges are installed. Figure 2: Diagnostic page layout (the patterns in each area may look slightly different on your page)c00584715.gif 1 - Printed by the right cartridge 2 - Printed by the left cartridge NOTE: If you are printing in reserve mode (one cartridge is missing), the missing cartridge's area of the diagnostic page will be blank. Step 5: Check ink levels NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured ink cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another product, the ink level indicator is inaccurate or unavailable. Look in the middle of the diagnostic page. The bars with "E" (for "empty") and "F" (for "full") at each end show the ink levels in the cartridges. As ink is used, the solid color changes to a faded color. I just want to install the needed empty ink cartridges on my hpc5180. It said I needed to install a couple cartridges, but now I can't figure out which ones. I looked in the control panel under printers,...

Press the OK and Help buttons at the same time. An extended self test page will print out. On that page will be ink levels.

I am an HP employee. I do not represent HP on this website.

When we do a fax test, we get clear print; when we try to print documents nothing appears, altho it goes thru all the right sound motions

Sounds like your colour cartridge is empty. Fax test will pull from black only but documents sometimes use a combination of colours in order to print out black. I suggest checking your ink levels - instructions for windows;

Check ink levels
NOTE: If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured print cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator will be inaccurate or unavailable.
  1. Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
    • Open HP Director , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
    • Open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Services tab, then the Service This Device icon.
  2. The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low Check ink levels

I have HP 6540 ...... the black cartridge was emptry ( my son do this :) ) ...when i refill it (and put it in the printer) indicator says that the cartridge is empty. When i pres the buttons on the printer...

each cartridge has its unique serial number,
printer remembers him,
is absent sensor of the ink level determination in you cartridge. You can to print, but message will say to you "EMPTY CARTRIGE".
this warning function can be disconnected by you in printing driver.
If you bathe new cartridge, that level will show full.
If afterwards put(deliver) old , that he will show that empty.
Printer can have a memory about two or three last cartridges.

Sounds like a non genuine, aftermarket ink that is dodgy.

Dell 942 AIO printer cartridge problem

Was your replacement cartridge a new dell product? If it was, the sensor on the prnter should recognize it as new and reset the indicator to full. If, however, the cartridge was refilled, remanufactured, or otherwise an off brand, the ink indicator will show it to be empty. Just ignore and use the printer as normal -- it will print just fine, but you may need to press the select button to get it to start printing the first page.
