If the system is operational, the compressor will come on when you charge the system. It's a safety feature of the compressor so it does not burn up running dry.
As you charge, the compressor should kick in. At first it will kick in and cycle off until there is sufficient charge to bring the system up to correct pressure.

Grab some refrigerant gauges and take readings. If the low side has more than 40 psi or so of pressure, the low limit switch will close and allow the compressor to run. If there is indeed low pressure causing the compressor not to run, you will need to flush the system after eliminating the source of the leak. If the a/c compressor has never been changed, it is probably the source of the leak.
Hi, the way to get the compressor to come on is to short the connector to the pressure sensor on the return line. The sensor is along the same line you were trying to charge on. Just remove the connector and use a large paper clip to connect the terminals inside the connector. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.
Go around the car to the passenger side, and insert the rounded door key in the door, then lock and then unlock the door with the key. This should disable the anti-theft system. This also will shut off the horn blowing when the alarm is tripped. This works on all older Cadlillacs. Hope this helps.
Hi, If your system if low on freon the compressor will not engage due to the low pressure. You will need to get at least a small charge into the system to determine if there are other problems and to find the leak. The condenserhave a high failure rate on these cars so that is where i would start to look for a leak. If there is anything else i can help you with just ask. Thank you.
sounds more like the low pressure switch try that first u dont have to drain system for that,,,if it doesnt work they are two refridgerent temp sensors, u have to drain system first but u need to replace both so u know u have both coverd and dont have to go back in to system
I have a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado and every time i start it the car has rough Idle and the Idle fluctuate's. I also can feel it in the gas pedal when the car is doing this I tried replacing the throttle body sensor but it still does it I also was told it was the Idle error sensor. So instead of spending the unecessary money again I thought I would go online and see if anyone could help me with this problem.
