Question about Toshiba Satellite A45-S150 Notebook

1 Answer

My laptop is getting almost to a standstill when the cooling fan is turning on. It's quick before its getting too warm.It stays slow until I reboot and let it cool down. Laptop has been cleaned inside and out. There are no specific application that makes it do this. Laptop has been upgraded to 1.2 GB memory. The rest is the original hardware. Its running Win XP Pro or Linux Debrian dualboot.

Try pulling out the last memory chip ypu installed not all memory chips are of equal specs run your same apps yes it may be a little slower but you can see if the heating problem continues if it goes away you will know that you need to getr a better quality chip or one that is compatible with your model

My cooling fan wont turn off when my car warm up fully

Your cooling fans may never turn off until the engine temp cools down enough. Also if your A/C switch (if equiped) is on the fan should stay on. The defrost position also turns the A/C on as well (helps to defrost windows faster) so that would turn the fan on.

Cannot get cooling fans to turn on for radiator???

The cooling fans won't run until either the engine coolant temperature reaches about 218 degrees or the air conditioner/defroster are on. Once the engine reaches appx 218 degrees the fan will come on and run until the coolant temperature drops a few degrees and will then turn back off. If either the a/c or defrost are turned on then the cooling fan will begin to run to remove the heat from the a/c system and should stay on until either is turned off. If the engine is overheating in slow or stop and go traffic then the fan may not be working at all due to a bad fan motor or blown fuse.

How can I tell if the fan is bad or if it it not being truned on? Dell Inspiron 1501

On a laptop this can be a slightly annoying thing. The fans are normally set to run only when needed so will not be working all the time. If your laptop is warm/hot then you should be able to feel some air movement from the exhaust vent. That will tell you if the fan is working. Use it for a while and then start checking around the sides for any warm air coming out. The fan itself might be quiet but you can feel the warm air.

You can also turn the cooling setting to max cooling through the power panel. That should force the fan to run all the time.

If the fan is running but you can't feel any airflow then the cooling system/vents may be plugged with dust or lint and need to be cleaned. Most computer shops will offer a flat fee to clean this. Usually the service depot will as well. If this is the case you really don;t want to run the laptop until you get it cleaned. Without the airflow the cpu will overheat. At best it runs slow and at worst it burns out.

When I sit at a standstill for more than 5 min my temp jumps way up and the AC air gets warm. Then when I start driving again, everything goes back to normal.

Check your cooling fan(s). Sounds like they are not kicking in at temprature, but then when moving, enough cooling takes place.

Most common is the sensor that activates the fan.

My gateway MA1 laptop running win xp has cooling problems

Contact GATEWAY, and get them to fix your laptop.
The fan is designed to run at "full-speed" when you first turn it on, and then there are temperature sensors that slow the fan down, to minimize noise, while the computer is "cool" enough that the fan does not need to run. The sensor is malfunctioning, and is not turning-on (or turning-up) the fan when the computer gets "warm".

Fan goes on way too often

Need to clean out your fans and cooling fins around the fan, cpu and the vents inside and outside computer. Check to make sure the fan isn't slowing down. Bad bearings in the fan will cause more friction and cause it to run slow and not cool as well.

what is happening is that the heat exchanger has to get to a certain temperature before the fan comes on that way you have warm air blowing out of the grilles and when the heat excahnger gets cool it shuts off until it warms back up again.

No picture?

Connect an external monitor to the VGA port and see if you get any display. You can also let the laptop sit powered down until it cools (an hour or two) and see if it works after cooling, as that would suggest that the problem is heat related.
Good luck.
