Question about Cerwin Vega Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I have a set of Cerwin-Vega VE12's, powered by a Crown XLS 202. I am a DJ and I have a Denon X900 Mixer, a dbx 1215 graphic equalizer and Monster Pro 900 power conditioner. I have two technics 1200's and a Denon D600 CD player and controller. My problem is that I have already run through to sets of speakers on this configuration and I'm getting distortion (sounds like a blown or blowing midrange speaker) on the left channel. Now that I recall, the other sets of speaker had the same distortion and blew on the left channel. The Crown owner's manual suggests getting a compressor, which I'm open to. How do I lick this once and for all? Thanks, Geof

Hi Geof.
Since other speakers sound the same on the left, it's an amplifier problem. I assume the speakers work good on another amp. If you are technically inclined, we can work together to find the problem on the inside of the amp. otherwise, take the amp to a service person.

My Cerwin vega xls 15s doesn`t work!

Blown circuit. The question is; was it the power supply that blew out or was it the amp? check for fuses and see if they are ok. If they are not, replace them. IF they are then you are going to have to get new amp and or power supply.

Pls send me a connection diagram of how to connect my dbx 215 graphic equalizers to a powered mixer It's all in there. Here is a little extra guidance. if you are getting your left and right channels out through RCA you will need a RCA to 1/4 in adapter Radio Shack carries them relatively cheap. If it's already 1/4 or XLR skip this Left goes into Left in, Right goes into Right in. Then work backwards Right comes out of Right out, Left comes out of Left out. channel 1(left in) and Channel 2(right in) of your powered mixer. you should be set.
Good Luck, Cody J.

What is the best amplifier to use to drive the cerwin vega cls 215 speakers?

Use a "real" amp, not a receiver as your CV's need real power to perform the best. Check the following links for some choices. I use the first as it's a monster for low-end.

Remember to shop online wisely and only purchase from a authorized dealer.

My 1215 equalizer produces a hum when inserted between the subwoofer output of the receiver and subwoofer amp. I am using the barrier strip inputs and outputs, rca tip to plus, shield to minus. I have...

Wild guess - I had something just like your problem (including consumer dbx components) and it was ONLY with the track lighting turned ON. Replacing the lighting control DID NOT help but the problem up and went away by itself.

Sometimes hum can be defeated by rotating the orientation of a single power plug.

Just wondering: WHY do you feel the need to EQ the sub beyond its own controls? Though I don't have not pro-gear, I'd use a dbx-120 instead and save the EQ for something more in tune (pardon the pun) with its capabilities.
