Hm, check for burrs or knicks in the bobbin area or needle plate. (These usually occur when the needle strikes the internal mechanism.) Wrap your index finger with a piece of old pantyhose or something similar and rub. If the fabric catches, there is a rough spot that is most likely catching the thread. If the burr is little, it can be buffed with a very fine emery board or sand paper.
The other possibility is the bobbin case may be malfunctioning--perhaps from wear or something stuck in the tension. Can try buying a new bobbin case to see if that helps. (At any rate, it's nice to have a spare bobbin case if you use lighter or heavier weight threads. You can set the bobbin tension for the thread so it is always ready to go when you need it.)
May be helpful to also try a brand new needle.
