SOURCE: Installing thermostat - extra wire?

you have to go down to your furnace and follow the thermostat wire ...it connects to a terminal strip or fan centre...the color doesn;t really matter...installers mix and match all the time....look at the furnace wiring and mark it down...Red on "R"...Green on "Y" whatever it is...and connect it accordingly upstairs...if you only have 4 thermostat wires downstairs you will need a jumper wire between RH and RC...if you have 5 wires you will see 2 wires on "R" at the furnace.,...and connect either to RH and RC at the thermostat

SOURCE: Need wiring diagram for Honeywell RCT8100

The old thermostat has a second stage heat which is W2. The new one doesn't have second stage heat.
The wiring your describing on the old thermostat is telling me you have a heat pump with second stage heat and the new thermostat is for air conditioning only. You will need to get a thermostat for a heat pump.

SOURCE: Honeywell RTH230B cooling problems...

I printed out the instructions for your thermostat. It looks like you should have the following.

There should be jumper wire between Rh & Rc

Red wire to Rh or Rc whichever is easier since there is a jumper. This is the hot wire and all the thermostat does is connect to route it to the components needed for heating or cooling.

Blue wire, tape it up and don't use it. There is no spot on this thermostat for it. It is only used on thermostats that are powered by the transformer.

White wire to W. Powers the heat relay

Yellow wire to Y. Powers the cooling contactor

Green wire to G. Powers the indoor fan relay

There is a black jumper on the back of the face plate. Look at section 2.4 Setting J2 Jumper in the installation instructions. Make sure you have it in the right position for what you have. If you don't have them just google them.

Hope this helps.

I have a digital Total Line thermostat that has a blue, white, yellow, red and green wire. Where do I attach these wires to the Model 44300A unit?

Normally Red to R (24v coming to stat) White to W (Heat) Green to G (Blower)
Yellow to Y (Air conditioning) Blue to C (common)
This is assuming you have gas heat and central air conditioning. If you have a heat pump blue would be for that. If you have a volt meter, check voltage between red and blue with furnace turned on. It will be 24 volts approx. if blue is common.
