The top of my ti-89 is covered in blue and black lines where the top screen icons are supposed to appear you know the F 1 all the way across is covered with lines and the 7, 8, 9 and multiply x button will not work

SEND IT INTO Ti, LET THEM CECK IT OUT, FOR A SMALL FEE IT'S WELL WORTH IT.
IT'S BETTER THAN BUYING A NEW ONE, PLUS THAY WILL
FIND THE PROBLEM AND INTSTALL THE LATEST VERSION SOFTWARE IF NEEDED TO BRING IT UP TO LATEST CONFIG, AS THAY DID TO MINE.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
Good luck!

### TI89 is has locked up with error msg "undefined variable"

Without performing a hard reset, you can avoid implied multiplication and insert a multiplication sign (*) between a variable and a function. For example if you enter xsin(x) you must insert the multiplication sign (*) and write x*sin(x), otherwise the calculator will assume that xsin( is a function. It will look for it and not finding it, will send an error message. Similarly, if you want to enter x times y or some othervariable, you must insert the multiplication sign, x*y

### Hi, I wonder how to use a TI89 to graph a multivariable functions's 3D picture. Thanks.

Hello,

First you must configure your calculator to perform 3D graphics
Press MODE
1.The first line shown is Graph. Unfold the hidden menu list with the right arrow and choose Graph 5:3D
2. Press ENTER to validate.

Now you must define the surface you want to draw
1. Press the [diamond] key then [Y=] to get a list of function names, the first of which is z1
2. Enter the following function (or your own) z1=(x^3*y-y^3*x)/390
( x cubed times y -y cubed times x) divided by 390.
3 Press ENTER.

Graph the function
Press the [diamond] key then [GRAPH]

The graphing screen displays progress in %. When it is finished you will see a weird sombrero.

Hope it helps

### Change TI 84 OS to TI 89 OS??

And why, pray tell, would you do such a thing? You will ruin your Ti84 Plus Silver Edition and will not have a working TI89. Besides, TI connect will refuse to transfer it.
If you like the capabilities of the TI89 Titanium, buy a cheap or used one on e-bay or amazon.com and spare your TI84PLus SE.

### I received this solution, but at the end the calculator asked me about some invalid certificate. Now the ti 89 is stuck at the boot screen because if I retry, it goes thru the whole process again and asks...

Hello,
The answer I gave you was taken verbatim from the TI FAQ and knowledge base. I copied and pasted the part relevant to you calculator.
In any case, I sent an e-mail message to ti-cares@ti.com, giving the link to your original question and my answer to it. I took the liberty to copy/paste your present message. I also asked about that invalid certificate.
All we can do know is wait for their reply.
