Question about Gateway GT5220 PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have attempted to upgrade a Gateway GT52223 from 1= Gig existing 2X 512 DIMMS to 2 Gig on two separate occasions first using Using Crucial -2-1GB 240-PIN 128Mx64 DDR2 PC2-6400 UNBUFF CL6 the system would not boot with these so I returned them ,then I bought PNY 2x1024MB at 533MHz PC4200 DDR2 and 240 pin two 1 gig dimms same thing ! Intereting the box now has one of the PNY DIMMS and one of the old 512 DIMMS and runs OK. This box is only upgradeable to 2 meg ..... Any guesses as to why it wont recognize and run on the entire 2 gig on 2 1 gig DIMMS >THANX

Your last results is running your comp OK because it is really only running on the 512 stick. When putting 2 different sizes together it will only run on the smallest, with this said here is a website http://www.4allmemory.com it will test your comp to exactly what type RAM you need . I buy for my clients all the time from this website. Very reliable,Try it..and remember about the 2 sizes

I am using a Gateway MD2614u PC Notebook with 3Gig memory, 64 bit Windows Vista OS SP 2. Can my system utilize 16 Gig Ram? Thank you.

If you're using at least the 64 bit premium of vista, then it should be able to use 16 gigs. http://www.crucial.com/support/recognize_memory.aspx

BTW it has 2 ram dimms, so you will have to calculate with these 2.

Here are the specifications of the Gateway 838GM: You will have to replace the existing memory with thesesettings only: The machine comes with: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB PC3200DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR Nowyou can only upgrade to 4.0 Gig total. I would recommend going to this link and order the correct memory foryour computer I use them quite a bit. http://www.memorystock.com/memory/Gateway838GM.html Rob

You can put 4 gig of ram in your machine but be aware that XP will only recognize and use 3 gigs of it. If you have (2) one gig sticks and (2) 512 mb sticks that would be the best setup for you...you won't be wasted your bucks that way, unless you want to step up to Vista or Windows 7, then the OS will recognize all 4 gigs which is the limit for that MOBO.

Upgrading acer laptop RAM

Hi,
You Can Actually Upgrade This To 2 Gig Memory.
Each Slot Will Take 1 A Gig Strip.
I,d suggest Buying another 256 mb Strip, To Put Into Slot 2.
Or Buy a 512mb ( Half Gig ) Which Will Give you 750mb With your Existing Strip Already In There. ** Recommend 1 Gigabyte Max** 2 gig of Ram in This Baby Would Probably Start Glowing.
You Can Buy DDR/266/333 In 256/512/1 Gig Strips. These Are Commonly Known As SD-RAM-Modules.
