Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V2500 40 in. LCD HDTV
is almost 2 years old and beyond warranty. The lines have sharp edhes and
some are thick and some are thin. The show up as soldi colors matching
the colors of what ever was on that channel at that time. The only workaround is to switch off the TV and turn it back ON.
This happens in less than 15 mins from startup if watching HD channel or playing a game on PS3. Sometimes, when watching non-HD channels, it doesn't happen for over 1 hour.
But,once it starts happening, it gets more and more frequent. At times, the frequency being less than a minute.
Is this repairable?
Hi, this is the result of a failing PC-Board(Main Circuit Board-Mother). The actual distortions or, lines are the result of separation that is occurring within the soldered circuitry of the board layout. this is isolated in the A/V(Digital/analog) sector. In most cases, this will be a heat related issue and, the replacement of the PC-Board is recommended. the price of this replacement will be around 300 to 400 dollars tops. the labor will vary from 50 to 80 dollars an hour, depending on the actual repair shop or, in-house repair selected in this case.
***(It is recommended to contact the manufacture of the unit for this Board replacement procedure and part as well. this PC board is not a defective part at all and, there are no known recalls or defective notices issued at this time. this is just a cold solder break(seperation of the metal solder joints)

Usually its a bad video board with these tvs. Yes it is repairable, usually swapping out the board is the fix. I would have someone with electronics expertise do it to make sure it is done right and so no one gets hurt. You should be able to order the board from Sony or a local tv repair shop if you plan on replacing it yourself, otherwise there are online part sites that you can search for, that should sell it. Let me know how this turns out.

It is repairable but the cost to repair this problem will likely be more than the cost to replace it.
