The OS itself does not contain wifi. Wifi is hardware that is installed in the device. AS far as the OS is concerned, yes the OS does support the wifi networking protocols. You MAY have to load the wifi adapter driver(s) for you device if Windows does not have a native one that is compatible, however. You can determine whether or not the driver is installed by going to the DEVICE MANAGER and looking at NETWORK ADAPTERS. If there is no wireless adapter present or there is an exclamation mark alongside the adapter, then you need to load the driver to get wifi functionality within the OS.

To add more info, most desktop computers DO NOT contain wifi hardware. They usually connect to the network via Ethernet cable. You can buy internal or external wifi adapters for a desktop PC if you don't want or can't cable up to the router. All tablets, laptops, and smartphones have wifi installed. You may have to go into the setup and enable it on the tablet and phone, but most laptops have a function key combination that enables and disables the wifi at your leisure. Wifi connection to the router is usually simple, but a passkey (password) is needed. This password may be preinstalled from the ISP, or you can set it up and/or change it yourself as you wish.

Hi, I will assume that you do have wireless hardware that does work in Linux. If you have found yourself with a wireless card that does not seem to work you might consider installing the latest Ubuntu and enabling the proprietary driver for your device. Most often this will have your wireless working much quicker than trying to go the ndiswrapper route. help: How to Set up Wireless Network in Linux

How do I install wifi on my old Gateway 300S desktop? It doesn't seem to

You have 2 options... 1. Purchase a USB WiFi adapter that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll assume to be Windows XP 2. Purchase a PCI WiFi card card that's compatible with your current OS, which I'll still assume to be Windows XP... PCI is better, but you'll have to physically open up your computer to install it. Either case you'll have to install software drivers for your chosen device.

I have acer aspire 1641 and i want to make it wifi hotspot. but my wifi icon showing "no wireless adapter in your system" but i checked specification of my laptop and it has wifi card. plz plz...

Did you reinstall OS? It is possible that you forgot to install correct drivers for this device. You can check this by going into Start>right click My Computer>Properties>Device Manager>Check if there are any yellow icons. Also check under Network Adapters if the wifi is installed.

If it's not installed then you need to download the correct driver from Acer website.

I have a Samsung Blu Ray player with the option of NetFlix/Pandora/blockbuster and I'm trying to setup my player to recognize my wireless router. How do I set it up??

Take a look at your bluray player make sure that it is wifi built in not wifi ready. If it is wifi ready you will need to get wireless adapter for the bluray. A common thing is for people to mistake wifi ready, that it is ready to connect to there wifi but it means that it is ready to connect to wifi with adapter :/ hope this helps :)

Installed Parallels on mac but cannot connect to the internet.

When running your mac in the windows mode, insert your mac os dvd into the drive. It will launch the program to install all the software and settings to make your windows os very "mac-like".
I had the same problem. Mac has thought of that for us! Insert the Mac disc, let it fully run it's installation WHILE YOU"RE IN Windows os. It'll set up all the settings for wifi and everythng that one would normally have to set up in windows.
If you have a printer that you want to use on the windows os that is already working in the mac os, you can download a copy of bonjour from apple. This program will get your printers up and running as well in os.
