Question about GE 36 in. JGP628 Gas Cooktop

It is not a GE but it is a Jenn-air

4 Gas burners, 2 on each side left and right sharing one igniter on each side... on the right side the igniter lights (tick) when the front burner is turned on but does not tick when the back is turned on..... everything is clean and clear... I have to turn on the front burner first then turn the back on for the gas to catch up from the front (bad, I know).... what could be the problem, the switch or the igniter?
Thank you.

but the back burner does not light from the igniter?... it does light from the fire of the front, it is like putting a match to it... beside I don’t hear it ticks when I switch the back burner, so how could the igniter light only the front and not the back although the back discharge gas as soon as it is turned on.

what I am saying is, if the igniter sparks and light the front why it does not ticks and light the back when the gas exists?... so now could that be the switch that does not make the igniter clicks?

If it will light when you activate the front burner the ignitor is ok.
It sounds like the switch on that valve has failed and is not putting power to spark module.
Post back if you have any questions.

When you turn the knob two things happen. The gas valve opens to allow gas to the burner and the ignitor switch is activated to power the spark module. These are two seperate parts. Each burner valve has it's own switch. You most likely have a bad switch for the rear burner.

If you will light the front burner and leave it in the light position so that the ignitor is clicking, then turn on the rear burner, it should light normaly and be much safer then letting the gas cross all the way to the front. After the rear is lit you can turn the front off or to whatever position you want it.

It's either a bad spark module or switch.

Trouble with front burners: Right burner sparks but does not light Left burner does not apper to spark, but lights If you turn on both bruners they some times light???

The igniters for the burners are all on one circuit so when you turn the burner to light the switch inside the burner valve will cause all burner igniters to come on. As far as the left burner not sparking it could be due to a bad igniter switch in the valve and when you turn on the right burner you are causing all(including the left one) to spark. You will need to make sure that the burner eyes are clear and not plugged. You can use a sewing needle to clear out the eyes. The small eyes at the igniter electrodes are very important because if they are clogged the burner will not light.

Jenn Air Gas cooktop burner ignition

Hi JHMcdona

Most likely the electrode for the right burner is defective. As well as the switch may also be defective (is shorted because of pressing hard on it trying to make it work!!). Change the electrode and igniter switch of the right front burner.

I would try cleaning the burners. You can purchase cleaning brushes made specifically for this purpose and they work like a charm.
