Hello Cherylogea,

Can you please boot the PC up, press either (F2, Esc, or Del) to get into the boot setup menu. From there find the menu where the boot order is listed ie. ( CD-Rom, HDD 0, Floppy) you want to make sure the first device listed is your CD-Rom.

Save new settings and reboot with the disc inserted (make sure the disc is free of dirt and finger prints). It should then ask you to press any key to boot from cd.... press a key and you should see the process begin.

Check that and see if it solves your problem, post back and inform us if that helped or not. I will be happy to provide further assistance if you require it. Thank you for choosing Fixya!

HP recovery discs can be used to return a computer's software configuration to its original condition. HP provides a recovery solution on the hard drive, but it is still a good idea to keep recovery discs stored in a safe place in the event of a hard drive failure. Use the sections in this document to obtain a recovery solution that works best for you.

NOTE:HP computers designed for commercial use, such as Workstations or Pro series, use "Operating System" or "HP Restore Plus" DVDs. To order these types of discs, go to the HP Replacement Part Store . Recovering your computer without recovery discs You may not need recovery discs to recover the software on your computer. HP provides a recovery solution on a separate area of the hard drive. If the hard drive is still functional, you can still perform an HP system recovery from the hard drive as long as the recovery information has not been destroyed or corrupted.
To do a software recovery from the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.

Dell recovery will not work in a Toshiba Laptop. Just make sure the boot order is set to CD/DVD driver first that will automatically start the CD/DVD driver when disc is loaded.

My suggestion is to ask help first to technical person to backup your files then after backup load the recovery disc. Just a thought hope it helps thanks.

My pc is lock .my dauther try to many password

Some times the CAPS Lock key may be on, so please make sure that the CAPS Lock key is off.

If the issue still exists, I request you to perform the full system recovery using the recovery disks. To perform this full system recovery, you can use the recovery disks that you have created using the recovery partition.
Use the recovery discs to restore the PC by following the steps below:
    1. Insert the recovery disc in the optical disc drive and start the computer.
If the computer is running, insert the recovery disc and immediately click Start and select Restart to force the computer to start from the recovery disc.
    2. When prompted, Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, press any key on the keyboard.
    3. Allow the recovery disc to start and load the required files while the Microsoft loading screen is displayed. It may take several minutes to load the required files.
    4. When the HP Recovery Manager window displays, click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next to open the Recovery Manager.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the required actions.
NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart and the Windows desktop may display at various times.
    · When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to Backup the user files.
After performing the backup, when prompted, re-insert the recovery disc, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.
    · A status box is displayed to indicate the status of the recovery and the estimated time remaining.
    · If you used multiple discs when you created the personalized recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert any requested discs.
    6. When prompted to Insert the Supplemental driver disc , take one of the following actions:
    · If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it included a Supplemental driver disc, insert the disc and click OK or Next . The recovery program checks the supplemental disc and installs the specific needed files.
After the Supplemental files are installed, a prompt is displayed to remove the Supplemental disc and insert the original recovery disc.
    · If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it did not include a Supplemental driver disc, click Skip or Cancel . The recovery program will ignore the request and install the next file on the recovery disc.
    · If you created a personal recovery disc, press Next to continue.
    7. Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.
NOTE: If you have not created a personal recovery disc, or the recovery disc fails or become corrupted, see HP Notebook PCs - Order Recovery Discs for Vista as your notebook is preinstalled with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

if you just want to back up your data you can actually borrow a friend computer and hook your harddrive
to his computer and get your files.or you can burn a live cd of linux and get the data that way.depending
on your operating system you should be able to get everything back.then you reload the machine with
any windows installation and use the cd key that was on the side of your comp.

for the recovery disk,it sounds like you registry is to corrupted or it is not compatible with your comp.it is
just easier to reload your machine

New Hard Drive, system recovery problem

The systems disc is for the drivers and utilities, and, yes, there should have been two discs with the machine. The A45 is new enough that it should have come with an XP disc, not 98. I believe there was a mix up and you have the wrong disc. If you can get the operating system to load with the recovery disc you have, then you can get the drivers at the link below. Some two disc sets will not load an operational system unless you have both discs. Since you were running XP before, I don't think you're going to be happy with 98. I'm going to suggest that you purchase an XP disc, or contact Toshiba, and let them know that the wrong disc came with the machine, they might send you the right disc. If you do have to purchase an XP disc, simply load the system, then go to the link bellow and download the drivers. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.
