Power reset - Rinnai 1004

Is there any power reset capabilities for my Rinnai 1004 (LP gas) following a power failure ?

And if not, can I use a computer-style UPS as a backup?

Thanks

1004F - 1 year old - run 6 months fall, winter , spring usually at low temp setting. Flawless operation to this point

recent power failure - unit not getting power once service to bld'g was restored

tried a couple of sequences - 1. close gas at unit, unplug, immed. plug in, open gas, turn on. This did not work. 2. Unplugged again and let sit 3-4 hrs., check fuse on circuit board ok, reconnected wire at moiter light, plug in - it started.

2 days later > no apparrant power failure but found unit again w/out power.

unplugged > wait > plug in > start.

What is the tiny reset button upper right of circuit board - reset? and why

unit not getting power 2 days after the initial power outage for no apparant reason?

Actually the Rinnai 1004 has an E2prom chip in it that should hold your last setting. If there is a power outage longer than 12 hours, you may have to reset it. A UPS may not supply enough power to keep the unit running. I have seen a battery with inverter setup but very costly. Try and unplug you heater for a few hours and see if the settings stayed. Extend the durration until you find the point of no return. Check all the error codes stored in the unit by holding down on the Economy button as well as the up and down arrows all at the same time. Because you will need both hands to do this, get a friend to write them down as they are displayed.

What does the code 12 flashing mean

Flame failure. The stove started and ran for a while then quit. Out of gas, power failure??? Try to restart. IF you get an 11 code then you may be out of gas.

Keep us posted.

Heat shuts off, red power light blinking and number 12 blinking on the display screen.

You may have had a power failure. The situation could be as simple as turning the stove off and on again. The 12 code means flame failure. Gas heater are nothing to mess around with if you don't understand them completely. Don't remove anything from the unit unless you are very sure what you're doing. A call to Rinnai is in order if the code keeps coming on. Good luck,

Rinnai 1004 F Error Code 11

Code 11 is that the unit is trying to light but does not sense a flame after 5 seconds. Usually means you have run out of gas if you are bottled gas. Check your bottles are turned on if you are on LPG, you might need to change over manually. Have you anything else on gas?

Brand new and just hooked up 1004 when run for a few minutes begins to have a squeaking noise.

Remove the two screws on the top right and left sides of the heater. Unplug the wires on the top right front light. Start the heater and listen where the squeek is coming from. Contact your installer for a warranty repair and give them the information where the squeek is coming from.

How to test a used Rinnai 1004 furnace?

The fitting on the back of the unit is 1/2" MPT. Wouldn't suggest messing with it if you are not familiar with propane or natural gas. Make sure the unit is set up for LP if you are going to use a portable supply tank. These units are very reliable. Check all fittings with a diluted soap and water solution before turning on the unit. If it is not connected to it's venting system, you would have a forced induction source of ignition if you had a leak in your piping. These units should only be installed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter, one simple error could allow carbon monoxide (CO) into your house
