Question about Buffalo Technology WHR-G54S Wireless Router (WHR2G54S)

1 Answer

I am live to the modem, not the router, need a password to login when connected to the wireless. I just got a new vista operating system computer and my password is in a hidden field on my old computer and I don't know what it is. Need to find out or set up a new password.

this didn't work. I can only connect through the cable, not wireless. I tried both with the cable and attempting to hook up the wireless, but it didn't recognize the router. I got solutions to other past used routers, but not this one that I used for a couple of years.

  • david667 Jul 15, 2009

reject the solution. won't find the router either through cable, wireless or both. It sees the router but doesn't give the passkey.

  • david667 Jul 15, 2009

    yes

  • david667 Jul 15, 2009

    solutions?

How should I be connected to the network. Old computer through cable, didn't find the passkey, tried to set up through the wireless bit it doesn't find it either.

  • david667 Jul 15, 2009

I've done that, now do I connect throught the wireless and try again? I'm asking before I disconnect from the internet. Then, will I have an opportunity to set-up a new password? how?

did you attempt to recover the password from the old computer with the help of the software I linked?

  • Ekse Jul 15, 2009

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wirelesskey...

Did you download the above file, extract the contents on the old computer and run the program did it give you the password stored on the computer? I somewhat suspect you haven't done it properly.

    Well

To reset the wireless router to default settings you can hold down the reset button behind the router for alteast 30 seconds, this will restore the default name for the network and remove all passwords.

  • Ekse Jul 15, 2009

in the wireless router setup pagesHttp://192.168.0.1 Its mentioned and explained in detail in the user manual.

    try wireless.

I can't get my wireless printer to work since I bought a new modem

That's strange as the wireless printer communicates with the router, not the modem. Did you change routers, or bypass the router when you hooked up the new modem?

Usually, you use the panel on the printer, Settings, tochange the wifi device to use, and enter a password when prompted. With newer routers and printers, there's a WPS button that allows the new device to be added without needing to know a password.

Just a few ideas you might try to get it working again..

Trying to connect my mobile to my wirelesss Netgear, keeps asking for wep

You have set your wireless connection as Secured Wireless Network when you configured your wireless Modem/Router, so you need the "Network Keys" (ie the set password) to access to your wireless network. That is why your wireless cxonnection is asking for the "WEP KEYS" in order to connect to your Wireless Acess Point.

You can read your modem/router manual how to access to your router to see what password you have set.
or
Refer to the link, here

Hope it helps.

Trying to install netgear 108 mbps wireless firewal router WGT624

you need to configure the router,

usually by connecting to it at the address 192.168.1.1

but you should download the manual to make sure.

once your connected, you need to set the cable modem setting (if any) or just set it to Automatic or DHCP for it to automatically connect to the cable modem, and then send out the signal on the wireless.

Laptop won't connect to the router

Let's start with the easy first. It's a ROUTER issue. If it came with a CD, DO NOT RUN IT!!! You will not like the result when Belkin tries to take over your wireless card, especially in Vista.

The best you can hope for is Plug in the Belkin to your Modem. If it's DSL, you probably have a PPPoE connection and there's a username and password TO THE INTERNET> If it's a Cable modem, you probably use DHCP. Hope for that, because out of the box the Belkin is looking for DHCP. Plug your computer into the router and see if it connects.

Set your computer for Obtain a DHCP and see if your computer gets 192.168.2.x (possibly 2). Now, open Internet Explorer (IE) and type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar (no http, no www, just the numbers). If it logs you in, you're all set to make the changes to the router, no password is required on initial login. If for some strange reason the router does not give out DHCP addresses, manually set the network card to use 192.168.2.x (anything but 1)
the mask at 255.255.255.0 and the gateway at 192.168.2.1.

Set your wireless up with the wireless access tab and set your security for the wireless login. I use WEP with the 64 bit password of 1011121314.

All the above was for the easy. If you're using something ugly like an AT&T or Verizon DSL and you need PPPoE settings, you need to follow the instructions for your specific router to set it up. It may require the assistance of the Telco, as they can direct you into their modem to turn on bridged mode and the like. Since you can get into it by just plugging in the computer directly to the modem, I'm thinking that DHCP settings will work.

Please post back and mention your country and the exact number of the Belkin router. I don't know what version software you have, but if it's new, I'm guessing Axxxx. Here's a link
http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/p74559-h_f5d7230-4vaxxx_manual.pdf

Starting on pdf page 29 (25 real) are the step-by-step manual configuration instructions. If you follow along, it will tell you how to set up PPPoE and the like.

Good luck and please post back if you run into any problems.

Can't connect to router

Try hitting the reset on the back of the router. Normally need a pen to hit and hold down the little button. Although if everything is working whats the point? If you previously had setup your router and have a password on it might be blocking access to the assistant setup.

Connection problems...

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
