If you don't have the disk you can try contacting the manufacturer, they sometimes have a copy of the Operating System disk backed up on your hard drive. If so they can tell you how to access it to restore/flash the bios.

Aspire one keep saying no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key and I don't have a disk slot

You hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

Hi Jon.

Go into the BIOS confuguration by pressing the F2 key as the laptop starts up and set the BIOS to its default configuration. Save the changes by pressing the F10 key or save in the BIOS menu. The computer will restart so see if that has made any difference.
If you still get the same IDE #0 error then the hard drive is ready for failing. A replacement hard drive will not cost much at all.
Seeing as you have only spent $20 on the laptop in the first place you have got yourself a bargain there. Spend a liitle money on a new drive and OS then you could have a fully working laptop.

Regards.

"insert boot disk and press any key". This message comes when harddrive is not recognized in bios or windows system files damaged. For that first open cpu cabinet and reconnect both connection to harddrive.Reconnect RAM memory. Then when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or del ALT+F2 key to enter in bios then make sure hardddrive is recognize in bios. Then if still same issue then you need to repair windows with disk. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

MY LAP TOP MESSAGE SAYS... 1782 DISK CONTROLLER

You are getting this mess because the system is not able to detect a boot partition on the hdd or may be it is not able to detect the HDD itself.

Try to remove the HDD(hard disk) and re-seat it, Also make sure that there is no disk in the CD drive (in case the first boot device in the BIOS is set as CD drive).

Go to BIOS by pressing F10 (system setup) and check if the HDD is detected in BIOS.

Try to run a recovery by pressing F11 on first screen after power on.

Please get back for any further assistance.

Bios damaged

You are fortunate that your BIOS has a built-in recovery procedure. However, you will need a working floppy drive to recover the damaged BIOS.

Do you know what BIOS microcode you're using? Specifically, do you have an Award, AMI, or Phoenix BIOS? (Or some other one?)

Award, AMI, and Phoenix all have different procedures for recovering the BIOS. Once you know which one you have, search Google for "XXXX BIOS recovery" (Where XXXX is Award, AMI, or Phoenix).

Typically, the procedure includes placing a BIOS file onto a floppy, renaming it to a specific name (like AMIBOOT.ROM) and inserting that floppy into the drive.

This message is seen on the laptop screen BIOS Damaged! Serviceman: Place maintenance disk in drive and press any key when ready.

Hi,
The maintenance disk was simply a floppy with rewritten code on the first few sectors that bypassed any kind of checksum or self-diagnostic. Useful if you lost or forgot your BIOS password. Also let the tech into the bios to look at settings before replacing the chip. Back then it was cost effective. Nowadays they just replace the whole dang shebang.
Here are your main options, in order of attempt:

1. Hold down esc key when booting, see if you can get into bios. If not...
2. Remove battery and disconnect ac adapter
3. Gently disassemble case until you find a round coin-like battery
4. Go out, buy replacement battery, replace battery, then reverse step 3 and 2

If these steps fail, you've a bad BIOS chip, you could try to ...
5. ebay it.

Hope this helps!
