If this is a wall or window unit, the plastic vanes on the front direct the air flow. If there is a knob to change the AIRFLOW (not the temperature) direction from "down" to "front" or some such, try removing the front panel and see if the control knob has come loose, or see if there is some kind of linkage that has come loose or is broken. Replace broken parts as needed, or fix them if you are able. If this has helped, please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

Center air vents

cant think why going at a higher rpm could change the vent setting but at a higher rpm the a/c will get to a lower temp so perhaps the vent setting knob is at fault and the vents are set to floor and not the panel. i'd investigate the vent knob operation as a first step let me know how it goes

I have a 2004 Yukon. The airconditioner blows

OK, do you have 'zoned' cooling where the passenger side can have a lower or higher temperature depending on a setting on the heating/ventilation/a/c console?
This is the way my Cadillac Deville is, it actually has a knob on the passenger side for the passenger to control temperature.

Good luck on this.

Also, make sure the system is charged up fully with r134a.

The knob on 2002 alero will not change position

Trace it down to the box from the switch (lubricate WD-40) and try to turn it from there. Not sure what else it could be unless the cable between the two is broken or disconnected.
