The picture in our tv is concave and we cannot make it straighten out; it was working fine and then the colors were out of line and we realigned them but the picture curves inward. It looks like a computer monitor when someone has readjusted the screen width and height.

I have a philips magnavox and had two problems that I recently fixed using kits from www.TvRepairKits.com. I can't say enough about their kits and help. Without them I would have never been able to fix my TV set myself.

The first problem I had was the TV was looking 3D. After doing some homework I found out that this is a convergence problem. I bought a kit, followed the instructions, and to my amazement fixed it myself.

After building my confidence with the 1st repair I decided to get their CRT fluid kit. This kit fixes the dull video, red video, or bright/halo looking video. If you have a magmavox set that is more than 5 years old your tv has this problem already. It happens on every set. As before I bought the kit, followed the instructions, and now my video looks factory new. Once again I wanted to say thanks to the team at Tv Repair Kits for putting together kits that the average joe can use.

The picture projects the image with concave lines on the edges. I'll explain further: somehow the picture is distorted in a way that bends the four edges of the picture in a curved-concave manner so that...

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

I have a Mitsubishi 55 inch rear projection tv, ws55819 on which the convergance is gone bad. I'm getting a concave picture with multiple colors and black lines with a blurred picture. this happens mutiple...

Your reference to concave picture suggests a high voltage problem and not convergence. If the raster can't scan from left to right , top to bottom, your having High voltage trouble. if your colors are not dropping on top of each other that is convergence. I would suggest it may be time to consider a purchase of the new HD set for the cost of this repair. good luck

Screen fades to blue after 10 mins of viewing. Sony kp-57hw40

This link has the instructions on how to fix this problem and other similar problems. You have nothing to lose, so I recommend that you try it.

http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

This works with the two other colors, blue and green also. Not all models of Sony Projection TVs have the red, green, and blue pots in the same order as the picture that is listed on this link, so you may want to google search for your model's service manual. The service manual can also help you be able to remove the cover for your particular model of TV. I was able to find the service manual for my model, and sure enough, the order of the pots are reversed on mine, so I would have been adjusting the wrong color. Read all of the comments on this link too, because you can find other helpful tips and may even find someone with the same model of TV as you that gives more specific instructions for your model.

You may also find your model's service manual here:

I hope this helps you!
Fare well. :)

P.S. you can also clean the mirrors and dry dust while you have it open.

RCA-picture discolors, goes concaved

Sounds like a capacitor in the power supply is beginning to fail.Unless your good at this type of repair, I would call a tech to have it serviced. And I would also not use the set until the problem is corrected, or it could get real expensive to fix.

The convergence chips in your tv have gone out. They control the three picture tubes and align them so that they create one picture on your screen. I recomend having a qualified technican replace them and realign you convergence. Thanks.
