How to remove the cylinder head on a 1999 5.7 Tahoe

#1 first time ever the BEST suggestion Sent everyone away for the weekend unplug the stereo turn phone off. #2 take good pictures of both sides of the car engine compartment. borrow some fingernail polish several colors. drain coolant.disconnect battery Now lets start #1 remove air cleaner assemble there are 3 10mm nuts that hold it down unplug maf sensor and iat sensor and remove single wing nut on throttle body from drivers side remove main harness from bottom of fuse box 7mm bolt as you remove this harness taking it over the engine remove connectors and paint so you know where they go. Remove the four bolts that hold down a/c compressor and swing it out of the way DO NOT TAKE LINES OFF they will discharge the system From the front side take out the 3 upper bolts and 2 lower bolts and one behind power steering pump just slide it forward to get to the front intake bolt . remove upper radiator hose and heater and bypass hoses. remove alternator. remove bracket that alt sits on a hidden bolt behind tensioner so remove it first. now unscrew outer throttle cable this one is the cruise control and remove inner cable but holding throttle plate open with hand in bore it has a round lead ball on it. take mounting brackets off 3 nuts and 1 stud remember how this goes together. now remove rear mount holder and place them over master cylinder area.remove EGR pipe in front of manifold 7/8 wrench in the center where you removed the injector wiring connector rectangular plug there are to 8mm nuts that hold down the fuel lines remove nuts and retainer plate DO NOT remove lines yet follow those lines back and remove both lines 16mm nuts and in the center a 10mm bolt now remove lines as a assemble. Now you can see the flat distributor cap remove cap 20 torx with cap off rotate engine so rotor points at twelve straight towards radiator. Beer break After leaving ten cans all over yard remove distributor hold down bolt THIS PART IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THERE IS NOT TIMING ADJUSTMENT FOR THIS ENGINE. as the distib come up the shaft rotates place a dot of polish to index the installation. now remove the intake bolts 8 bolts 13mm with slight pressure under a corner it should pop up for removal. Now jack up and support car remove the 3 15 mm nuts or 9/16 off each manifold get flanges clear drop back down now remove spark plugs then exhaust manifold bolts 6 per side 15mm If you can get the exhaust manifolds out great most of the time they don't . remove valve covers DO NOT REMOVE ROCKER ARMS remove the inner head bolts 9 bolts 5/8 heads (7 long bolt 2 short ) and the 8 lower bolts on the back of the head are the ground cables to the computer one per side some also has a braided cable and a fuel line retainer clip. once these are removed place a small piece of pipe in the intake port and pull they are on there but should come easy once lifted up a little remove push rods these can go in a pile they all are the same length. either send heads out for pressure test and surfacing or find that the gaskets are bad. Cleaning DO NOT SMOKE the intake valley and block head gasket surface must be clean of gasket material suggest kerosene and a soft bristle brush and sand paper use a tap 7/16 by 14 thread chase bolt holes so the bolts turn easy during installation. once this is done drain engine oil and install a new filter.. clean valve covers and intake manifold separate plastic top from bottom clean inside and replace gaskets torque to specs. Once heads are back clean all mounting holes for even torque. buy new head bolts they have thread sealer on them so coolant can't wick up bolts and leak into engine. now install the heads do not worry about the push rods yet . FOLLOW A REPAIR MANUEL FOR TORQUE SEQUENCE. once done install push rods and seat into lifter cup remove nut counting the turns to get rocker arm over rod and return to that setting they all will be different number of turns. Now reassemble in reverse order. Many other Questions e-mail good luck

Hold the big alloy nut above the trimmer head with a suitable spanner, then turn the whole head anti clockwise as you look at it whilst holding the nut, the complete head will spin off.

Not a problem, Just info needed, lost manuel, how would I tighten the chain? Also, what type/weight of oil should be used?

on the side of your saw there are 2 nuts next to each other, back them off one&half to two turns, and then look to the front of the saw were the bar that the chain ride on and you will find a screw head with a flat head screw driver turn clockwise to tighten not to should be able to still turn the chain with your hand fairly easy snug up the two nuts end thats for oil you need chainsaw chain oil you can buy it at your local hardware store.

Cannot undo nut on bottom of Strimmer

Make sure you are turning the nut to the right to loosen, if you are already doing that but cannot hold the line head still to loosen the nut some feature a hole to insert a screwdriver or pin (supplied with the trimmer) or if yours does not have that: use a nylon strap or even a leather belt to wrap around the head, and then clamp the loose end in a vise or quick clamps and it will hold it in place well enough to loosen the bolt.

The head on the trimmer is stripped out and I couldn't get it off

measure the outside of the tube and any compatible head will clamp on the tube
all internal drive shaft and cables use a 1/4 square drive at the end which slips into the bevel drive gear in the head
normally straight shaft tubes are bigger in diameter than bent shafts
junk yards or dumps are a good place to get heads complete

How do I change the right brake light/stoplight?

In order to replace the light bulbs you will have to remove the entire rear light housing unit. In order to do this you must do the following:

  1. Pop the trunk.

  2. Loosen the trunk lining in order to reach the 4 nuts that are located on the right or left side and hold the light housing in place.

  3. You loosen the trunk lining fabric by removing two small, black plastic fasteners that anchor the trunk lining fabric. These either screw loose or you will need to pop off using a blunt- nosed pliers ( a flat head screwdriver works in a pinch) by first pulling the square bit out (towards the direction of the back seat,) followed by the circular components.

  4. Pull the fabric loose on either the left or right side to expose the 4 nuts holding the light assembly in place.

  5. Now, look for the four gold colored washer and nut assemblies surrounding the tail-light assembly. Find yourself a 7/16 socket and remove those bad boys. The tail-light itself should be able to pop- out, otherwise you've missed a washer- nut.

  6. Ease the tail- light assembly off of it's perch on the car and hold it red- side down. This will expose the wiring and "turn- locks" for the blinker and tail- light.

  7. Remove the bulbs from the assembly by turning the turn- locks in the direction (counter- clockwise) indicated by the plastic molding, and pulling upwards, off of the tail- light assembly.

  8. Pull the bulb from the turn- lock with a moderate tug of the hand.

Boiler heats up but water only comes out of one head

If you remove the top panel of the espresso machine and look at the groupheads, there will be a large nut on the top, within that nut there is a microfilter and a small jet(make sure the water to the machine is turned off and the machine is cooled before removing nut). The jet might be clogged(I have actually seen sand in some models), use a paper clip or pipe cleaner to clear, then slowly turn on the water valve to flush out chamber, or use a wet/dry vac. After you have cleared jet if you still have no water flow, move to the solenoid(black electrical box connected to group, on your machine I think it is under the group you might to remove the front panel to reach it). Place a finger on the box and run the group you will feel the magnet activating, this tells you that the solenoid is working. Remove box it has a 14mm nut on the discharge, once again make sure water is turned off, using a wrench remove the silver pipe fitting that is connected to the square brass fitting(brass fitting sits on the group with 4 screws holding it in place some manufactures uest 2 screws at opposite ends). When you remove the silver part of solenoid turn on water slowly, if no water shoots out then use a paper clip to clear out the middle hole in the square brass connection.
