hi there,
there could be a few reasons for this, but the most likely is that the laser has gone in it, ie... not reading any discs. it could also just be a loose cable or connector inside the recorder. the only way to know for sure is to open it up and see i'm afraid :( if its the laser, you will have to get it replaced i'm afraid. Hope this helps
You need to install or update the Firmware. Go to www.panasonic.ca and search your model. You will then need to download the firmware for your player and burn it/mount it as an ISO file on to cd. Just follow the instructions and you'll be up and running in no time.
It took me about 25min, but it is working fine now.
if it don't read cd's either then you won't be able to use a cd lens cleaning disc and then you will have to manualy clean the lens on the laser inside , because it is then to blind to read
You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.
Cheers...
