Two loud beeps when turning on the laptop

I upgraded the RAM on my laptop and when I turned on the computer, two loud beeps occurred. I tried switching back to the previous memory chips but the same issue occurred again. Now the laptop will power on but leaves me with a blank screen after the beeps occur. Did I fry the motherboard?

No, you probably don't have the memory seated correctly. Carefully open the memory bay, remove the memory being sure that when you reseat it you make sure good contact is made before locking it in the slot.

Turn on notebook you get three beeps and then nothing

Based on the information you have provided, it appears that the issue is related to the RAM memory modules of the computer. Try replacing/changing the RAM modules. The issue occurs if the installed RAM modules are either corrupted or not supported by the computer.

Unable to power on computer

When you here this signal sound beeping this is an RAM memory error. Try to open your CPU casing and remove the RAM, clean the RAM with rubber eraser.

After that insert the RAM and try to turn on the unit. Once you can hear again the loud sound beeping the RAM are bad or faulty already. So you need to replace the RAM.

Tiny laptop. Loud constant beep during start up, will not start.

This problem is commonly happen form the memory or RAM. At this time you need to check the memory. Remove the memory and turn it on identify in there is sound provided. This could be a problem with the system memory, an expansion card, or the motherboard.
Try to use another RAM or use the another memory slot. Clean the RAM and also the memory slot.

Good luck!

Hello, Can I install a 512MB DDR DIMM, N mem stick taken out of my Dell Desktop into a Toshiba Satellite A15, S129 laptop? Thanks, RD

You can try, without fear of having your laptop "blow-up".

Turn your laptop off.

Remove the battery.

Physically, does the RAM fit into the RAM slot? If not, the answer is 'no' -- most "desktop" RAM is much bigger than most "notebook" RAM.

If it fits, connect the AC power, and turn the computer on.
If it beeps wildly, or does not beep at all, the RAM is incompatible.
Disconnect the AC power.

Remove the RAM.

Re-insert the "old" RAM.

Re-insert the battery.

Reconnect the AC power.

Do a Google-search for "RAM upgrade Satellite A15" to find sellers that sell compatible RAM.

Hi, i have an acer aspire 1640z i upgrade my bios from 3a18 to 3a24. after installing my notebook restart and i hear 3 beeps ( 1 long, 2 short) and my lcd doesn't turn on the motherbord work fine. Please...

Hi,
1 long, 2 short beeps indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.
This issue can be caused by any of the below situations.
  1. New hardware conflicting with old hardware.
  2. Bad or failing hardware device.
  3. Connections not connected or connected properly.
  4. Recent electrical storm that caused a surge that damaged computer.
  5. Other hardware issue.
Disconnect the RAM from the Motherboard and turn on the computer. If the computer has a different beep code or if your computer was not beeping and is now beeping turn off your computer and try the below suggestions. Making sure to turn off the computer each time you're adding and removing the memory and then turning the computer back on to see if the suggestion resolves the issue.

Re-insert the memory into the same slot.
  1. If you have more than one stick of memory remove all but one stick of memory, try rotating through each stick.
  2. Try one stick of memory in each slot.
If you're able to get the computer to boot with one or more of the sticks of memory it's likely you're dealing with some bad memory. Try to identify which stick of memory is bad and replace it.
If you're able to get memory to work in one slot but not another slot. You're motherboard is defective you can either workaround the issue by running the memory in a different slot or replace the motherboard.
The RAM is located under the laptop behind a hidden panel.

Good luck and let me know how you get on and if you need any more help or advice.

Screen won't appear upon start up and I get 3 beeps but no screen

3 beeps POST code (power on self test) means RAM problem.
Reseat the RAM module/s and boot up your computer.
If you have two RAM modules, remove them both and insert one at a time to test them, to determine which module is faulty.
If it still doesn't work then replace the RAM module/s

Beeping before booting

probably the RAM. Take it out and put it back in to check. You will need some RAM to boot, so try each stick separately if you can. I'm guessing though that you'll have to get at least one other stick of RAM to check. You'll probably find that one is bad. It's probably covered for life, but that would be a good reason to upgrade it.
