When the camera is turned on, the lens moves into position, the camera beeps 3 times and then shuts down. New batteries didn't solve this problem. thanks.
I had a similiar problem with my Samsung Digimax A7. (three beeps and nothing else happened) Just out of pure luck, I powered the camera off then held the power button and menu button durning power up. It gave me a diagnostic menu with many options. I went to "focus test" and it said focus failed. After which time the camera fixed itself. (the lense closed and I proceeded to start taking pictures again. Just thought I would pass this "hidden menu" trick on!! YAAAY

Make sure the batteries are good and in right. If it keeps doing it you might be having a problem with your lens opening up and staying open, I had a camera that did that to me, and the lens had been knock and wouldnt open properly, check that out. The lens was out of range from normal and would automatically shut down
sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
My camera stopped working during a wedding. The lens is stuch out, it will power on, but right after turning on, it beeps 3 times, then turns off.
Hope we find a solution!
Same problem; however, after taking a hard look at the camera I noticed that the lens was tweaked; that is, is was not evenly extended so I pulled (by hand) on the inner, extended lens piece and viola; I turned it on, the lens retracted and extended upon application of power as usual.
My guess is the 3 beeps is much like a BIOS error with a PC...when there is a hardware problem they beep on startup...in this case, the camera was letting me know the lens was stuck.
get a butter knife or any thin object like that
and use it to push out the lens and turning it on at the same time
you will hear a clicking noise which is normal
once completely out, use your hand with a gentle but firm presure move it form left to right
and then hopefully it should work after that

Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.
I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.
I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.
So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.
Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.
As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.
