The door to the dvd player is stuck partway open

the gears on the drawer skipped a few teeth. as crazy as this sounds, give it a stern whack back in. if the plastic teeth are flexible enough to skip teeth one way, it'll be flexible enough to skip some the other way.

Do you have a DVD in the tray which could be seated incorrectly? With the power off, with slight pressure pull the drawer out since it is not locked it should be relatively easy to pull out with some resistance. Check for a disc or obstructions. Check to make sure the tray bezel is seated and snapped in place. Turn the power on and note if the tray closed. If not press the eject button. If nothing happens the DVD unit could be defective.
