Question about Sevylor XK2 - SVX200DS Kayak

1 Answer

Rip in kayak

I have created a rip in my Sevylor kayak. The rip is 3-4'' along a seam in the seat/back rest (the one in the aft, which is attached to the body of the kayak), but is NOT in an inflatable section. Still, I want repair or reinforce this area, so the rip doesn't continue to lengthen and get worse. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try underwater epoxy

Sevytek can be a challenge to repair, especially on a high-pressure seam. I'm not sure underwater epoxy will be flexible enough to stand up to being folded. I've used plastic welding to repair some smaller problems, so if you haven't found a solution and haven't tried that, you don't have much to lose. Good luck.

Sevylor st5656 what air presure should be in it

The ST5656 is a low pressure hull, so shouldn't be inflated to more than 1 psi, or about as firm as a ripe grapefruit. If you leave it out in the sun you need to let some air out or the air inside will expand and it will blow up

Can i attach a skeg to an inflatable Sevylor/Coleman fastback kayak?

You could probably tie one on using a rope harness over the top of the boat, you can do that on anything, but why would you want to?

It is not going to track really well in any event, and so you will just make it slower. Inflating it rally really well might help. This is a short boat and I suspect a bit high-sided, so it will catch the wind and it is more-or-less flat bottomed so it will spin a bit. (YMMV.)

Can you repair sevylor bladders? if so how?

dollar store contact cement in tube., an old bike tire, cut a patch out of tire and glue the patch on glueing around hole and underneath patch. apply patch smoothly. now glue around edge of patch. and let it dry for a few days at least 24 hrs. I have patched a bic yakka and a few cheaper inflatables patches hold up and hold air. good luck.

Repair hole

i use cheap contact cement (dollar store tube works fine) and a bike tire inner tube (much better than crummy patch the give you) and apply some glue around hole and on bottom of patch, apply it smoothly, and aplly glue around edges (seams ) of patch. let dry for 2 days, if your using the transparent patch its like a sticker peel and smooth it on and let it dry for 2 days( in my opinion and experience they ****)

SEVYLOR PULLS TO ONE SIDE

Practice your paddling. Seriously.
I know someone who cannot paddle a kayak in a straight line because she puts more power on one side than the other and cannot seem to learn how to even it out.

Sevylor river xk2 does not track well on still water

This inflatable kayak is meant to turn to facilitate maneuverability in whitewater; it needs to turn.

Try attaching piece of plastic as a skeg, perhaps the skeg from the Sevylor Tahiti will suffice (or a piece of lucite or a plastic cutting board). A skeg makes a boat track straight.

My Sevylor Colorado came with an optional skeg which I only attach on flatwater (never whitewater).
