Re: 360 woes

Microsoft have an extended three year warranty now for the red light problem, get in touch with them and they should either replace or repair your xbox, as long as you haven't tampered with your seal. if they do not help you call 1800-4my-xbox and they will.
Good luck mate and please rate if this has helped you

Red Ring of Death: Red Flashing XBOX 360 Lights Explained Common Xbox 360 Red Ring Errors The XBOX has a reported 54.2% failure rate which makes the XBOX 360 gaming consoles' worst "lemon" to date. If you find yourself with the red flashing lights error, --> lg.php?category_id=15&content_type=article&content_type_id=2663399&key_page=682482001924178892&site_id=1&bannerid=11791&campaignid=3153&zoneid=23&loc=1& follow this guide to try and pinpoint the problem with your XBOX 360.

1 Red Ring = Serious Hardware Failure
I f your XBOX 360 has a 1 red flashing light error, you're more than likely in big trouble. The 1 flashing red ring of light can be due to GPU or CPU failure, RAM overheating, a DVD drive error, or some serious problem with your Xbox 360's internal components. The most common 1 flashing red ring lights error is the E74 error. The E74 error is no easy fix for the Xbox 360 and usually has to be repaired by the manufacturer [though some have managed to repair it with the heat gun trick - but be careful]

2 Red Rings = Overheating
Mostly all red flashing lights on the Xbox 360 rings are due to overheating in some way or other, but the 2 red rings singles out overheating as the main issue. When doing the X-Clamp fix the 2 red rings are required to fix the Xbox 360 by overheating the CPU. If you get this Xbox 360 error without doing the X-Clamp fix, you probably just need to let your Xbox 360 cool down for a few hours. Make sure that all vents aren't blocked off and that your Xbox fans are working properly in order to repair this problem.

3 Red Rings = Basic Hardware Failure
The most common error on the Xbox 360 is the 3 red rings - also known as the Red Rings of Death (RRoD). This flashing lights problem is the main cause of Xbox 360's 54.2% failure rate. The 3 red flashing lights can be due to lots of different errors but is mainly due to the X-Clamps in your Xbox 360 and overheating. Fortunately, lots of people were able to fix this issue using the X-Clamp and heat gun fix. Follow this list of error codes to find out the real issue with the 3 red rings because there are quite a few of them.

The Xbox power button is flashing a red colour around it when turned on

You have what is commonly known as the "Red Ring of Death" There are a few different types of rings (denoted by which actual quadrants of the ring are lit), the most common one can TRULY only be fixed by an experienced tech. You should eject any discs, turn it off, eject the hard drive, take out any other storage devices, unplug all cables from the unit, and mail it to Microsoft for repair. Hopefully it is still under warranty. I got a refurbished unit sent back to me just a week after I sent my own off to them when this happened to me a couple years ago, I had a custom face plate on mine so I had to remove that as well when I sent it in because I was not guaranteed to get my actual unit back.

Red rings on the xbox 360 wont connect to live wont let me recover gamertag

The red rings are a fatal Xbox 360 error. There is no way to solve this problem except by having a qualified professional perform a reflow to the problem Chip. This can usually be determined based on the number of quadrants lit.
  • 1 Red Quadrant is usually System Error. A "E##" error code will be displayed on the screen. Most common is E74.
  • 2 Red Quadrants indicates the console is overheating.
  • 3 Red Quadrants indicates hardware failure. A secondary error code can be acquired by pressing and holding the sync button then while continuing to hold the sync button repeatedly pressing the eject button and noting the number of red quadrants that becomes lit.
  • 4 Red Quadrants indicates that either no A/V (Audio / Video ) Connection is available.
Good Luck! Let me know if you have any further questions. If you tell me which number of quadrants or the error code I can point you in the right direction.

  1. To begin troubleshooting this problem, check if the auto-off feature is turned on. To check if the auto-off feature is turned on, follow these steps:
    1. Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
    2. In the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, select Console Settings.
    3. In the Console Settings area, select Auto-Off.
    4. Examine the option to see if it set for auto-off. If it is set for auto-off, change your selection.
  2. If the auto-off feature is not turned on and this is the first time the Xbox 360 console has turned off unexpectedly, let's do a simple test before we continue troubleshooting.

To do this test, turn the Xbox 360 off for about 10 minutes. Then turn the console on and see if the problem occurs again. If the Xbox 360 console turns off unexpectedly again, make a note of how long the Xbox 360 console is on before the console turns off automatically.
  3. If the auto-off feature is turned off but the problem happens again, check the appearance of the Ring of Light to determine what to do next.
    • The two lights in the left quadrant of the Ring of Light flash red: The internal temperature of the Xbox 360 console may be too high. In this case, turn off the Xbox 360 console, and let it cool down. It may take several hours for the console to cool enough.

Also, make sure that the ventilation openings on the console are not blocked. (For example, the ventilation openings may be blocked if you place the Xbox 360 console on a soft surface, like a bed or a sofa.) Also make sure that the console is not located in a poorly-ventilated place, such as an enclosed bookcase or stereo cabinet. • No lights are flashing on the Ring of Light: In this case, we should check the lights on the Xbox 360 power supply for hints on how to fix the problem. A green light indicates that the power supply is correctly functioning.

I have 2 red rings on my xbox 360 but i dont understand what they mean...

The 2 flashing red lights may indicate that there is a hardware problem with your Xbox 360 console. The main thing that causes the 2 red lights to start flashing is because of overheating and as the motherboard within the console takes more heat it actually warps and bends until the solders become loose.

Once this happens you will receive the 2 red lights. Even before you get the 2 red lights you may have noticed your games freezing and this is caused in the same way, by overheating. As the chips take more heat they shut off to prevent lasting damage, although they can only do this a number of times until you get the Xbox 360 2 Red Lights.

To fix the problem you need to stop the level of heat the motherboard takes and you can do this in a number of ways, but it will involve opening up your Xbox and working on it. In addition, you could always send your Xbox back to Microsoft as they are offering free repair for this error, you will just need to wait 3-4 weeks that's all.

There is one more option available in the form of DIY Video Guide, that will explain you step by step approach to fix red ring of death within one hour without any technical knowledge.

Xbox 360

What is the error code at the bottom of the screen & check for flashing red lights on the power button if 3 illuminate it the infamous RROD(Red Ring of Death-google it) which you will get a free repair for if its the bottom right quadrant flashing red then its most probably E74 or E61. E61 is a hard drive related problem so try playing without it, & E74 is the AV cable snapped inside or the GPU/CPU inside the xbox 360 has weak solders on it, I suggest MS support ASAP.

Two Red Lights

This behavior occurs when the internal temperature of the console exceeds the acceptable limits. You may think of this as too hot, overheating, and so on. Make sure the fans are operating and the system has adequate ventilation.

Since you've been inside it's possible that a heatsink or some other part of the cooling system is not working properly or is loose. Check all these!

Good Luck!
