Question about RCA F36650 36" TV

Ghost in the channel selector

The channels on the TV tuner started to change all by themselves. First it was occasionally but now it is all the time. While this is going on, no other button on the top of the TV will work. Most of the time, you have to turn the TV off using the remote only. If you are lucky enough to get the menu to come one, you find it starts switching down the menu list by itself, as well. It is as if you are holding down the channel button constantly. I even tried to have only channel 3 set in (since we have a cable box) but found it also switches to the various other ports as well. I've tried unplugging the TV, I've removed the remote batteries, I even tried the last resorted "beating" on the TV. Still the channels change away.

Simply pop off the top channel selector/power pad and free the buttons. It worked like a champ!

The problems due to the microprocessor on the remote reciever present inside the tv .i think the remote is normal working. as the only problem with your iinfra red reciever microprocessor.microcontroler circuit. Replace the IC to solve this. Check electrolytic capacitor coupled to the memory block of the micro processor. Contact service if you are not well verse doing all this rectification works. it is off high risk and caution
thank you !

With further investigation, I found that the problem was actually with the channel selector button pad on top of the TV. This is easily removed and I found that this pad was a sealed single unit. But by disabling the suspected "stuck" channel down button (using my trusty pocket knife), this stopped the channels from changing on their own. Now I can still use the menu button along with the 'up" channel selector button when I need to change any menu items and the remote still works fine. It would be best to replace the entire button pad but I am told that RCA has discontinued supplying any replacement parts for this model. That is a rotten deal since this TV is only 3 years old. It looks like this will be the LAST RCA I ever buy. In any works fine for now.

What do i need to get regular channels on the tv

How to get regular TV channels?
Your HDTV should have a digital TV Tuner (ATSC) which may need an indoor antenna. Change your TV's input selector to TV or Antenna or Digital (probably one of those three) and scan for channels. If you don't get any channels, then you do need an antenna. Probably another $10.

Tv stays on one channel,no color or picture just ghost or outline, i have a Sharp lc46sb 54u

Check the settings to see if it is locked on channel 3 for external tuner source to have an input from a cable box ant in that needs 3 to function or from some other externally decoded signal like a vcr. Does the TV have a Digital tuner or the old analog tuner? If it's digital you can hook up a rabbit ear antenna with the UHF output on it & should be able to tune in some stations. If it's the old style then you will need a converter box to get it to receive any stations.
Fist check the settings to see if it has it set to lock on channel 3 for external tuner source.

Tuner appears to be stuck in channel 4. Cannot change Channel.

It is a tuner selector problem, either the processor controller ic is the problem, or the selector ic. The easiest solution use a VCR as your channel changer, and check to make the VCR is set to channel 4.

I own an old Sanyo VCR VWM 680. I have not used it for quite sometime & lost the remote control. I need to use it as my cable channel selector. Since its in the VCR mode, i cannot switch it to TV...

actually the tuner is in the vcr mode.
to get the channels to set,you have to autoprogram the tuner, and then they can be changed using the up down buttons.
rca make a universal remote for 10 bucks that will run that vcr

Tv needs to warm up?

I would suggest re-soldering your tuner connections and see if that helps. solder cracks tend to "fix" themselves after they warm up. Try the solder first but also look for evidence of a capacitor that may be swelled or leaking near the tuner. That is a possibility also.Hope this helps, let me know if you ned any further assistance.

No OTA channels

This television has an extremely weak tuner. It is very sensitive to both ghosting (multipath) and weak signal conditions, which cause it's digital decoder to "error out". Coupled with this is the decoder's long set-up time (time to actually begin a decoded video stream after signal is selected)and you find that every time the decoder loses sync it takes several seconds to reestablish normal decoding. The net result is the possiblity that the tuner will be continually restarting and never display anything. An extremely directional antenna may help. Otherwise, find a good external tuner box and use that.

Panasonic screen problems

Then recently, these additional problems: 1. The picture cannot be restored by turning off then on. 2. Sometimes, several channels will have the same picture. 3. Sometimes several channels will have the same ghost-like picture. the above all problems are due to one that is weak signal. 1 check for antena or cable or satellite input is ok or wire might be defective due to old. 2 input socket is loose some where. 3 loose contact near tuner or some print break. 4 at last & final its tuner might be defective. hope this will help.
