Computer won't read music files

I have an LG mp3, and I plugged it into my new computer. No sooner than doing so do I notice that it's saying that there are no music files on it, or it can't read them. So I unplugged it and checked and all of my songs were still there. Is there a certain program I need to download for my computer to read these files? (I already got the LG Media Center)

download vlc media player its free and ittl play almost anything
