I had this problem trying to print from MS Word in a template I downloaded. I found this link and it worked perfectly. I'm using Word 2010 so I had to adjust accordingly. It's for a slightly earlier Brother model but that did not affect my using it.

I had the same problem and in trying to troubleshoot it, I found out it was getting "No Paper" with just one Word document. I went into "Page Setup" and then "Page" for that document, found paper sources were set to "Manual", changed them both to "Page 1", then re-sent document to print and it worked!

To clarify - I meant change it to "Tray 1", not "Page 1". "Auto Select" and "Default Tray" will also work. The problem was for the document the page source was set "Manual"...

MP tray stands for MultiPurpose tray. Whatever document you are trying to print is set to print from the multipurpose tray that opens up from the front of the printer. You need to adjust this setting in your software's print settings.

Usually this is due to incorrect setting for Paper Tray in the printer, Fax or Copier configuration. I had the same problem which got resolved after I reset the configuration to select Tray-1 (T1) as the first source for paper.

Hope this helps.

My printer was doing the same thing!! I did not change configurations such as tray source so it finally instructed me to pull tray 1 completely out and i found that a paper was jammed aaaallll the way in the back of the machine, I was not able to see even when I opened back of printer, I turned printer off after removing paper and problem was solved...Hope this can help someone!!

it seems that on your model you can only use legal size paper on tray 1 & 2, then you have to set the paper size.
here is a link to instructions for your model.

Faded print on right side of page. When I copy/print in black, why is the black print faded on the right side of the paper?

Your toner cartridge may be the culprit.
Take the cartridge out and shake sideways and up/down. Reinstall it and try again.
If it's still printing faded side, replace the cartridge.

It does sound like a paper sensor in the automatic document feeder may be stuck and the machine keeps trying to eject the paper that is not there. I have not seen this before, you may have to call Brother at 1-877-BROTHER to find the nearest service center.

Loud clicking noise on MFC 9840CDW. like gear not engaging

Hi, Jane,

Saw your post--here's a place to start.

This annoying behavior can occur when the paper tray sizing latch is incorrectly set or left in an unlocked state. Try this: 1) Remove the paper tray from the machine. 2) Inspect the back/rear of the tray--you'll see an adjustable latch (blue on some models). 3) Pinch and slide the latch to acommodate snugly your preferred paper size--for US users, it's typicaly LTR (letter-size); be sure the latch is secure. 4) Reinsert the paper tray (filled with 20-lb paper), turn the machine off and, after 30 secs, turn it on again; now, print a single page or a test page. You should be good to go.

For those with an installed auxiliary paper tray (lower, second tray), the latch on this tray should be checked as well; while the aux (lower) tray latch may differ slightly, the same remedy applies.

The problem can be attributed to insufficient precision in Brother's tray design. Just a small quirk...

Report back if issues persist.
