Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Camera will not come on to take pictures

When I turn my camera on it says "Access" then a message comes up that tells me to "turn the camera off and then on"
I have tried this many times and all the camera does is continue to push the lens in and out and then tells me to "turn camera off then on"

Problem will not go away. Fully charged battery, took battery and memory card out for a while and re-inserted both and have same problem. [DSC-W55]

I love this camera, what is wrong?

Easiest answer is to take the memory card out of the camera and insert it into a card reader on the computer. This will bypass any problem caused by the camera settings.

Possible reason for "access denied"- you may have protected the pictures in the camera to prevent accidental deletion. This would give "access denied" if you were moving the pictures to the computer rather than copying them, because the move function deletes the originals on the camera after making a copy on the computer. Use the right mouse button to drag the pictures and you will get a dialog allowing you to choose "move" or "copy". I similar problem can happen if the memory card has its write protect switch on.

Go to camera Menu and select Initialize, OK.
Camera will turn on itself, if problem still exist, tap camera gently and turn On again to solve lens access problem.
Memory stick error can be solved by formatting it through Format menu in camera. Use another memory stick in camera to make sure that camera is OK.

This is a firmware problem that is common with many many digital cameras. It will have to be upgraded. The company will do this for $50
Otherwise you may be able to find a kit online and do it which would be hard to located

Formatting error on my olympus fe-340

never format the card from the computer... format using the camera.. use data recovery software to retrieve pictures if you have not formatted it... also make sure to "safely remove hardware" before actually unplugging the camera from the computer

Windows error " Please turn on the camera"

Your lap top should have the necessary programming already installed. The cam is normally used in video, film or video chat format. When you have a video link on MSN MESSENGER,you can click on the video call to a contact, and even though they have no camera, they will get a video picture link of you from your camera but you will only be able to talk to each other,as you will get no picture as they have no camera.Get windows live messenger 8.5 and use the video link with your contacts.

Your camera has problem in Lens mechanism. If Lens doesn't open properly, camera will not show picture at all. There would be Loading Motor section demaged in Lens mechanism and it needs to be replaced to work camera OK.
Now come to blue screen in playback mode, This model doesn't have internal memory, so you need memory stick/ card to see previously taken pictures.

My camera is a Lumix DMC - LS70 and the same thing was happening to me, the camera kept telling me to turn it off which never solved the problem and the lens never closed when the camera turned off. What i did was, i zoomed out as i turned the camera on (while it was in a picture taking mode) and it corrected itself. Try it and see what happens.

Screen only shows "access"

One of my friends has the same problem with her camera, but we can't even get old pictures to come up on the screeen. When you turn it on it says access for about 15 seconds, then tells you to tell the camera off and then back on.
